Actress Hayley Atwell has revealed that she will reprise the role of Agent Carter in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, despite being over 100 years-old in the current storyline.

We saw the actress as an elderly Peggy Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where Steve Rogers was visiting her in a hospital where it was revealed that she was unfortunately suffering from dementia.

She should be around 100 now, but it’s possible that Joss Whedon may have plans for a flashback scene where Captain America begins to reminisce about his time with her character in the ’40s where it all began.

The actress reveals that she was out one night with some of Marvel’s cast and crew and then she and Joss Whedon struck up a conversation about how her character could end up in The Avengers’ sequel when Whedon got excited about the idea.

Atwell says, “We went out drinking one night and he was like, ‘You know, it would be great to write something for you.’ And I was like , ‘Yes, Joss, it would! It would be amazing!’”

So it seems Whedon actually wanted to write something for her character, but with Whedon hovering over all of Marvel’s projects, we wouldn’t be surprised if he intends on linking her character’s story arc from Age of Ultron to her new TV show titled Agent Carter.

Rumors of the spin-off began after Atwell did such an incredible job as Peggy Carter in the first Captain America. Then after Marvel released the Agent Carter One-Shot, there were fans dying to see a female-driven Marvel movie or television show.

The show was officially ordered on May 8, 2014, and will debut on ABC in January 2015 during the season 2 mid-season break of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in an attempt to create a crossover audience.

We’d love to see Agent Carter come to the small screen, but it’d be even better to see her as young Agent Carter in a flashback in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Maybe Captain America will need a reminder as to why he does what he does and a key flashback scene with Peggy giving him a pep talk would be a perfect spot for Atwell to appear.

We look forward to seeing Atwell as Agent Carter in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will hit theaters May 1, 2015. Our only disappointment is that her character is unable to have a larger role due to her age in the current Marvel storyline.
