The producers and cast of The Flash teased the freshman season of the superhero series at the Television Critics Association press tour.
The Flash is one of the most highly anticipated series of the fall, and the more we hear about the Arrow spinoff, the more excited we get.
Because Arrow and The Flash share a world, we will see crossovers between the series — including an appearance by Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) in the Flash pilot. Another character making the trek to Central City will be Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), according to Flash star Grant Gustin. She is expected to appear in episode 4.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg also teases, “Episodes 8 of both shows, Arrow and Flash, are going to be a two-hour crossover event.”
Gustin also previews that Barry Allen’s secret identity won’t stay secret for long. Detective Joe West, Barry’s surrogate father, will find out in the pilot. “Anyone that’s close to me that sees me in the Flash suit is going to recognize me. Which I think is kind of cool,” Gustin says. “Even if I’m in the mask, if they know me well enough. They know it’s me.”
Also announced at the press tour was that Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) will appear in episode 4 as Leonard Snart, otherwise known as Captain Cold. Captain Cold is one of the Flash’s biggest nemeses and leader of Flash’s rogues gallery. “We’ll be seeing his origin and the origin of the Rogues,” previews executive producer Greg Berlanti.
Kreisberg also teases a Gorilla Grodd Easter egg in the pilot, when an empty cage is shown. Grodd is an extremely intelligent gorilla and one of the Flash’s many rogues. “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is out and hopefully they’re doing the R&D for us so that one day we can see exactly what jumped out of that cage,” he jokes.
The producers also hint that we will eventually see Dr. Martin Stein, the other half of Firestorm — the superhero formed by the fusion of Martin and Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell). “I think as we evolve Firestorm, you’ll definitely meet Stein,” Berlanti teases. “We actually had him in a version of the pilot at one point on the train with Barry when he was coming back from Starling.”
The Flash premieres Tuesday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
