On the last night’s episode of Pretty Little Liars season 5, episode 6, “Run, Ali Run,” “A” is back and ready to wreak havoc all over again. Check out our full recap for the episode here.
This episode of Pretty Little Liars picks up right where we were left off last week. The girls are trying to figure out who the new “A” could possibly be while the boys stare at the fire engulfing Toby’s house. We’re sad we didn’t see much of Toby in the episode, especially since his whole like is pretty much up in flames. Pun intended.
The next morning, Ezra is reading through all of his files in order to see if he has any information of Bethany Young from his investigative reporting days. He can’t find anything but don’t worry, Aria says she’ll be back later to help him out. We’re not entirely sure if this relationship is back in full swing or not yet.
In the school courtyard Spencer catches a glimpse at Aria’s phone when Ezra calls and she is having no part of the Ezria reunion. We’re still so torn on how we feel about the couple. For one thing, we know we should hate Ezra for what he did and never forgive him. But at the same time we can’t help but always love him and Aria together. Are we the only ones who still have their head and their heart filled with conflicting thoughts?
Ali joins in on the courtyard fun and her phone immediately goes off with a video message from “A.” The video shows Jessica being buried in the ground shortly after her murder. The video was accompanied with the message, “I buried your mom just like I watched her bury you. – A”
It’s all becoming a bit much for the girls and Spencer has a breakdown after she accuses her dad of murder. She decides to get down to business and heads to Radley to get information of Bethany Young. She runs into an old friend, Eddie, but he reveals that he can’t give out any information regarding Bethany per police orders.
Later that night, Ali decides to stay over at Hannah’s house so she can feel safe from “A.” But instead of pillow fights and gossip like regular high school sleepovers, this slumber party turns into a night of devising a plan for Ali’s second escape.
How is Ali allowed to be out without supervision? She’s still a minor and it hasn’t been that long since she came home from her last “kidnapping.”
Meanwhile, Aria keeps her promise and helps Ezra sort through his stalker files of her and her friends. That’s not an uncomfortable task in the slightest.
Before they can find anything Detective Tanner shows up at Ezra’s apartment and wants to talk to him about the connection between him, Shanna and New York. Tanner’s interrogating does nothing, though, as Ezra repeatedly denies knowing anything about her whereabouts. As if Aria wasn’t suffering enough now her boyfriend is going to get pinned for the murder she committed.
Detective Tanner leaves and as Ezra is showing her out the door he notices a little present waiting for him. Someone left a disturbing drawing of Jessica watering flowers outside with a huge monster coming up behind her. Ezra flips the paper over only to see that it is signed from “Bethany.” Aria and Ezra check out the security camera and see that is was Eddie Lamb, Spencer’s friend from Radley.
It is decided that the next day while normal kids are getting an education Aria will go to Radley to apply for a job so she can get all the inside scoop on Bethany Young and Eddie Lamb.
Back at the school it’s finally Emily’s turn for some screen time. She confronts Paige about Mona’s plan and exactly who is working with her. Paige caves and gives her the names but really believes it wasn’t them who set Toby’s house on fire. Having got the names (Melissa and Sexy Lucas) Emily goes to tell Hannah but her excitement is cut short when she sees that Hannah is helping Ali skip town.
While this is going on Ali is heading home to have one last moment with her father but she finds that he isn’t home. She isn’t alone, though, and Black Hoodie comes up behind her and hits her on the back of the head. Emily walks in just in time to stop Black Hoodie from strangling Ali to death.
One would think all of these blows to the head would eventually lead to a bit of brain damage, but that would be too realistic.
The next day at school Travis tells Hannah that he knows she’s been blowing him off to go see Caleb and says he’s not interested in sharing her. Based on Caleb’s new alcoholic tendencies we don’t see all of this ending well for Hannah, who is already on the brink of a mental breakdown.
The episode ends with Detective Tanner showing up at Alison’s house and taking her and her father in for questioning regarding Shanna’s murder. We wonder if this is going to lead to Ezra and Ali being connected to the crime. That would be an interesting pair to see interacting more together.
