This week’s artist’s spotlight focuses on Daunt, who makes incredible Teen Wolf artwork.
The Artist’s Spotlight is a Hypable weekly feature that will focus on someone who has caught our attention for fandom-related art, whether it be drawings, songs, crafts, or more! Every week you can expect a new talented artist we think you should be aware of!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Well, my name is Meg but mostly my friends both online and off call me Daunt. I live in the Southeast and I sell my art at conventions full time. In between, I work from home drawing and preparing for conventions. I also have a husband and two cats, and they hold down the fort when I’m gone and make every day wonderful!
Hypable: What first interested you in art?
Daunt: I was pretty creative when I was a kid and every time we did an art project in class I got really excited about bringing my ideas to life. My parents wanted to nurture that as much as possible so I got to take a lot of art classes. When I was in middle school I started watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and from there got into comics. I loved the art so much and I felt deeply inspired to keep drawing all these things that fueled my imagination and made me want to draw.
How did you fall in love with Teen Wolf?
This is entirely my friend Melissa/Kreugan’s fault. She’d been gently poking me to watch it. I finally did and after a few episodes I was totally in love. The humor combined with horror aspects and HIGH SCHOOL! Also, who can say no to such a gorgeous and charming cast! In the end it was the characters I fell for and whatever their journey is and wherever it takes them, I am along for the ride.
What’s the biggest challenge you face when you create some of your work?
I always worry about my drawings resembling the characters; it’s something I stress over! And the reverse as well, I also worry about my art looking too much like the characters. I want to keep my style but also keep what makes the character I am drawing look like the character.

Who’s your favorite character to draw at the moment?
I really love drawing Scott, he has a great face. His nose is especially fun to capture! I have a thing for noses and eyes. Stiles’ nose is also wonderful!
Can you tell us a bit about your non-Teen Wolf art?
I have some original art, mostly of fantasy creatures with some flora and fauna illustrations thrown in. I also have a lot of other fandom related art. I really loved Supernatural and Sherlock, both of which I have a lot of.
You also make tea blends! How did you get involved with that?
I do! I started off enjoying my friend Cara McGee‘s tea blends on Adagio.com and asked her about my doing some Teen Wolf themed teas. She was incredibly supportive and I dove right in. Now I have about 26 going on 30 blends for it, and it’s been exciting (and tasty)!

Which artists have influenced your style?
Hmmm, this is hard to say! I’ve had a lot of favorite artists over the years who have influenced me. A few that have deeply inspired me have been Wendy Pini, Kevin Eastman, Jody A. Lee, Larry Elmore and quite a bit of anime/manga in my younger years! I also adore Norman Rockwell and Leyendecker, particularly for their ability to capture a narrative in a single moment and for their incredible expressions.
What is one aspect of art that you wish you were better at?
I really struggle with my color work. I love coloring, but I feel like I need to practice and challenge myself more with it. Composition too, I’m always looking for ways to improve my grasp of it. Backgrounds and action poses, also!
What’s your ultimate goal as an artist?
I want to continue to improve as an artist. I want to be able to look back and feel like I’ve grown and developed. If I can continue to be an artist full-time and keep improving and learning new things, I think I’ll be very happy!
