ITV’s Broadchurch has announced its first new cast member for the highly-anticipated season 2 as filming ramps up.
Charlotte Rampling has joined the cast in a mysterious new role for the drama which stars David Tennant and “Charlotte Rampling! We’ve been keeping this secret for months, it’s been agony!” said Broadchurch creator and executive producer Chris Chibnall. “We have another big story to tell this year, and that meant finding exceptional actors for new roles. There’s none more exceptional than Charlotte: to be writing for her is a dream come true. As you can imagine, Charlotte’s character is an integral part of our new story — but that’s where we’re drawing a veil, for now…”
Rampling is best known recently for her role in Showtime’s Dexter as Dr. Evelyn Vogel (pictured above with the show’s lead character).
ITV says that several new additions to the Broadchurch season 2 cast are still to be announced. “We’re delighted Charlotte is joining the Broadchurch family,” said ITV heads in a press release. “She’s the first of some exciting additions to the ensemble for the new series.”
Broadchurch season 2 announced yesterday that all of its original cast members will be back for the sophomore run, including the actor/actress who played the kidnapper/killer.
Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, and Arthur Darvill lead Broadchurch. The show does not have a season 2 release date yet.
Meanwhile, Fox released the first trailer for their Broadchurch clone Gracepoint (also starring David Tennant but with an American accent) yesterday.
