The Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul has added its first new actor in Michael McKean.
According to Deadline, who broke the news, McKean will play “a new character, Dr. Thurber, a brilliant attorney who is now restricted by an unusual affliction.”
Since Saul Goodman is also an attorney, perhaps we will learn that these two characters have been working together for a while. Or they’re arch enemies who Saul finds himself regularly competing with for clients.
McKean is a veteran TV and film actor who’s had endless roles all around Hollywood. He is best known for his parts in This Is Spinal Tap, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, and Clue.
Better Call Saul stars Bob Odenkirk in the lead role. Jonathan Banks, who plays Mike, will also be returning. The show is scheduled to debut in November of this year on AMC.
Last week we spoke to Odenkirk on a conference call to promote the new FX series Fargo which he co-stars on. The actor says that he hasn’t read any scripts yet for the Breaking Bad spinoff. However, “the vibe I’ve gotten is that the show is going to be very intense,” he said.
Filming will take place in Albuquerque, the same location Bad was filmed for all five seasons. The original meth drama aired its finale in September of last year and starred Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul.
