After Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight script leaked online, he no longer planned to direct it. Now, it looks like those plans are back on.
This weekend, Tarantino hosted a live reading of The Hateful Eight script that was leaked, and it appeared that he had decided that instead of making the movie he had hoped, this may become the script’s fate, never to make its way to the screen.
Luckily, it looks like plans to make The Hateful Eight movie may still be on. Tarantino revealed that he has continued to work on the script.
“I’m working on a second draft and I will do a third draft, but we’re reading from the first draft,” Tarantino said, reports Deadline. He also said that the final chapter, chapter five titled “Black Night, White Hell” has been rewritten and “this will be the only time it is seen ever.”
The fact that he has continued to work on the script is undoubtedly great news. It’s understandable that he got mad when it leaked and even that he thought he would never work on it again, but it’s not surprising to hear that he liked the idea and the script so much that he just couldn’t turn away from it. Art beckons.
The Film Stage was also in attendance of the live read and they report that Tarantino said he hopes to film next winter, but they’re the only outlet of many to report the big piece of info, so it may be inaccurate.
The cast of the live read was star studded to say the least. According to Variety, the cast included Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, James Parks as the driver O.B., Kurt Russell as bounty hunter John Ruth also known as “The Hangman,” Amber Tamblyn as his prisoner Daisy Domergue, Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, Denis Menochet as the Frenchman Bob, Tim Roth as the Englishman Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen as John Gage, Bruce Dern as Confederate General Smithers, Dana Gourrier as Minnie, Zoe Bell as Six Horse Judy and James Remar as Jody.
It’s important to note that the only three actors who received the script prior to the leak were Madsen, Dern, and Roth, so it appears all has been forgiven as they all were part of the read. It’s unlikely that the same exact cast would be in the movie version, but we can only hope that the majority of them carry over if the movie does indeed happen.
