Orphan Black season 2, episode 1 “Nature Under Constraint and Vexed” aired tonight and we finally got to see our favorite clones! Check out our recap of the episode and let us know what you thought.
Deadly Diner
The episode starts with Sarah running in the rain, presumably right after Kira was taken. She calls Felix and he doesn’t pick up. She tells him that they took Kira and Mrs. S. She decides to go into a diner to sit down. She tries to call Alison, but the number has been disconnected. So has Cosima’s, so she decides to call Paul, but he doesn’t pick up either.
She pulls out the photo of the scientists from her pocket when Rachel calls. She tells her that Sarah needs to surrender herself if she wants to see Mrs. S or Kira, but Sarah doesn’t make a deal. Two men walk into the bar, and one of them sits down at her booth and another takes the gun that Sarah had hidden in her pocket.
They claim that they’re here to take her to Kira, but one of them shoots the owner of the diner and another gets shot by the owner before he falls. Sarah runs into the kitchen and hides in the bathroom, but there are no windows. She takes a fire extinguisher and slams it into the wall to break through it and run away.
Assless Chaps
Sarah goes to a gay bar looking for Felix, and he was about to get some guys to have an orgy with him while high, and also wearing assless chaps, when Sarah tells him exactly what’s going on. He thinks it might be Helena, but Sarah says she’s gone and doesn’t tell him she shot her. Paul calls her, and says Sarah needs to come in if she wants to talk to Mrs. S, but she won’t. She’ll only meet Paul as long as they’re alone, and she realizes they’re tracking her pink phone so she gets rid of it and steals another.
Meanwhile, Cosima and Delphine are at Sarah’s, and Delphine is getting some of her blood to diagnose. Delphine still works for the DYAD Institute, and she wants Cosima to come in there so they can help, but Cosima doesn’t want to, because she wants to the research herself.
Felix visits Alison and asks her for some guns, but she tells him she keeps them at the shooting range in her locker. She doesn’t want to use guns that are registered with her because her life is just getting back to normal – she’s doing a musical now! Alison says she might be able to get them an unregistered firearm from her friend “Ramon,” so she tells Felix to have Sarah meet her at the community theater later that day.
Sarah calls Paul, and tells him to meet on a bridge. A kid gives him a phone, and Sarah calls it. Paul says that tomorrow morning Rachel is getting on a private plane with Kira, and that there’s a big event at the DYAD that Rachel is going to be at, and she should come. During the call, the DYAD institute men track Sarah but she gets away before they reach her.
Cheeky Children
Sarah calls Felix (who’s with Cosima) and she wants their advice. Cosima says that Delphine wants her to go to the DYAD event as well, but Sarah thinks they should sit tight.
Alison meets up with Ramon at an Econo-Mart, who is apparently her drug dealer! He shows her the multiple guns, and she goes for the lady grip before asking him about his mother.
Delphine arrives at the Institute meets with Dr. Leekie, who wants to know where Cosima is. She says that Cosima is considering her employment offer, and he tells Delphine to be careful playing on the other side. He wants Cosima at the DYAD full time, starting that night, and she agrees because Cosima is facing the same respiratory problems as the other clones.
At the community theater, Alison is rehearsing for her musical when Art walks in, and then walks away. He meets with Angie back in the car, and she’s upset that of all the people they were investigating they got stuck with the model citizen and singing clone. As they’re outside they see Sarah walking up, and Angie gets out of the car to arrest her before Alison could get out and give Sarah the guns.
A Gun Bouqet
Rachel tells Leekie she needs his office because there are people (the Careers?) coming to see her. And she tells Paul that they’re going to Taiwan on Tuesday.
When Paul leaves, Dr. Leekie wants to know if she really kidnapped Sarah’s people, and she says that the less he knows about it, the better. Rachel says that Daniel will recover Sarah, and it’s none of his concern.
Art takes her to the crime scene where the men got shot at the diner, and Sarah tells him that the DYAD took her daughter. He says he’ll put out an amber alert, but she says that the people who took her are powerful. He wants to know what she was going to tell her, but Angie comes in and tells them that the Feds are there. Art lets Sarah go and tells Angie she almost trusts him.
Back at the apartment, Cosima still wants to go the event when a delivery comes in for them and Ramon gives them the bouquet with guns hidden on the outside because Allison couldn’t be there to deliver the gun. Cosima thinks they need a plan before they go to the event, and Alison agrees via video chat, so Sarah comes up with one.
She calls Rachel, but she gets Daniel instead, who speaks for her. Sarah says she’ll meet Daniel at 9PM and will be driving the red minivan, and so Daniel’s guys attack Alison instead while Sarah sneaks into the DYAD.
At the event, Sarah shows up at the event dressed like Cosima. She spots Paul and a bunch of other men going into a basement, but gets distracted by Delphine who meets up with her. Dr. Leekie approaches, and Sarah says she won’t sign the contract. Dr. Leekie says it’s up to her, but she says she wants her own lab and as they hug she steals his access card.
Delphine figures out Cosima is Sarah, and tells her where Rachel’s offices are. Rachel is meeting with the men from earlier and updates them on the status of their “project.” When they leave, Sarah walks into her office and tells her she wants Kira. Rachel says that their house was ransacked by the time the Institute got there, and she doesn’t have Kira or Mrs. S. Sarah knocks Rachel out just before Paul arrives, who eventually lets her go.
Kidnapped
Sarah shows up at Art’s place, and tells him that someone else took Kira – but Art says he knows. The Feds say that the cowboy who got shot was a Prolethean religious extremist, like Helena. He wants to know more about her.
Helena shows up at the hospital, still alive but bleeding a ton, and the Prolethean gentleman who attacked Sarah at the diner is there as well.
