The No Doubt front-woman will step in for Aguilera as she takes season 7 off to have a baby.
The Voice season 7’s coaching panel is shaping up, as Gwen Stefani is set to join Pharrell Williams next season. Voice regulars Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are expected to return as well.
Hypable has previously reported that “Happy” hitmaker Pharrell Williams would be taking over for Cee Lo Green, who announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this year that he would not be returning to NBC’s popular reality show.
Aguilera’s return to the show has been up in the air, especially with the announcement that she was expecting her second child. But The Wrap reports that while Aguilera is taking season 7 off to spend with her new little one, she will be returning to The Voice for season 8 in spring 2015.
Stefani welcomed a new little one of her own just this past February, her third with husband Gavin Rossdale. After hitting it big with No Doubt in the mid-90s, Stefani has gone on to have a successful solo career, and even try her hand at fashion and acting.
This will be her first time on a judging or coaching panel, but her fun personality and musical know-how are sure to make her an asset to the team. Plus, since nepotism is big among The Voice coaches (*cough* Miranda Lambert *cough*), maybe she’ll bring her adorable husband on as an advisor.
The Voice season 7 starts filming in June. While there has been no official announcement yet, a source tells Us Weekly that Stefani’s “contract is now done.”
Stefani recently joined fellow season 7 coach Pharrell Williams onstage during his set at Coachella earlier this month, where he hinted at Stefani’s return to the music scene. It’s good to know the coaches are already bonding offscreen!
