Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen play the same character in X-Men: Days of Future Past, so Fassbender learned how to do a good Ian McKellen impression.
He did a pretty good job of it. In a fun fan question and answer session from Yahoo UK, a few of the X-Men: Days of Future Past stars attempted to impersonate their colleagues.
Check it out:
“I think in this one for sure I concentrated more on Ian’s voice so that definitely was different in this one because we are both in the same film and I thought it’d be weird and I didn’t want to ask him to go and study my voice,” Fassbender joked on how he changed his performance of Magneto to match up with McKellen’s.
Hugh Jackman, too, tried to do an Ian McKellen impression, but his wasn’t nearly as good. He, Fassbender, and James McAvoy joke about how McKellen can add an extra word at the end of a syllable.
Not to be left out, McAvoy added a solid Patrick Stewart impression. The two actors both play Charles Xavier.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is undoubtedly one of the year’s most anticipated films, and it will hit theaters on May 23. The inbetweenquel (as director Bryan Singer put it) is the second most expensive movie 20th Century Fox has ever made, following only James Cameron’s Avatar. The film reportedly cost around $225 million to make, but it should easily make a profit. Every X-Men movie to date has grossed at least that much.
The film stars returning X-Men: First Class actors Fassbender and McAvoy along with Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. Also rejoining the X-Men franchise with McKellen, Stewart and Jackman are Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, and Ellen Page. Fan-favorite Peter Dinklage will be playing the film’s villain.
