A new Michael Jackson album is on its way. The pop superstar’s estate has given the greenlight for the release of eight new songs.
The new Michael Jackson album is titled XSCAPE and is set for a release on May 13. The album was produced by Timbaland, with Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid overseeing the project.
Said Reid in a press release this morning, “Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world. Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world.”
According to Jackson’s official website, Reid was given access to “treasures” in the singer’s collection which included four decades of vocal material Jackson recorded but never released. The songs were retooled “to add a fresh, contemporary sound that retains Jackson’s essence and integrity.” A Deluxe Edition of XSCAPE will include “a selection of the recordings in their original form.”
The album’s title is also the name of one of the new songs. The press release notes that the name of the album “honors Michael’s album naming process.” Fans may recall that he always titled his albums after one of its songs.
The new album’s track list isn’t available at this time.
Pre-orders for XSCAPE begin tomorrow, April 1. It is his eleventh studio album and the first since 2001. Will you be purchasing the new compilation?
Jackson died in June 2009 of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication after a cardiac arrest.
