Trust proved to be a fragile force in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 15. Check out our recap and share your thoughts on “Yes Men”!
Here’s what happened in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 15, titled “Yes Men.”
Hot
The hot Asgardian sorceress Lorelei, wastes no time in getting down to business now that she’s reached a sizable human population. She disposes of the poor newly-married sap she enchanted in last week’s episode, and recruits a biker gang, led by a guy named Rooster.
Recovery
Simmons takes blood from Skye, who is going stir-crazy while the GH-325 heals her up. Skye thanks Simmons for saving her life. Ward comes in and tells Skye she looks better than when she was dying. Skye blames herself for getting shot, but Ward says he’ll never forgive Mike Peterson for not helping her. Though Skye feels bad for him, Agents Garrett and Triplett are hunting Peterson down.
Because literally nothing good can ever happen in that guy’s life.
In the lab, Simmons is frustrated that she can’t find any trace of the GH-325 in Skye’s blood. She wants to send a sample to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, as it could save millions of lives, and is irritated that Coulson refuses to let her share the potential miracle drug.
Meanwhile, Coulson is still haunted by the use of GH-325 to save Skye. He meets Agent Sitwell for information, but to no avail – Sitwell says Nick Fury is off the grid, and won’t be found unless he wants to be.
Allies
The team follows orders to track down electromagnetic surges in the California desert, which herald arrivals from Asgard. Fitz is excited, since Asgardians are allies, but Ward reminds him that Loki wasn’t so much what you’d call an ally.
He was, however, very sexy.
The team drives to the growing pulses of energy, until someone Bifrosts down, right in the path of the SUV’s. “I am Lady Sif of Asgard,” the woman regally announces. “Your world is in great danger.”
Very dark magic
Back on the Bus, Sif is surprised to see Coulson alive, calling his revival “dark magic.” When Coulson explains (the short version) she agrees to let Coulson break the news of his survival to Thor.
Sif gets down to business: Lorelei escaped her 600-year captivity in Asgard’s prisons during the prison break in Thor: The Dark World. (Sif doesn’t call it that.) Lorelei is a sorceress, and can enslave men – not women – to her will with her voice – or at most, her touch. Only the magical collar Sif carries can stop the power of her voice.
Meanwhile, Lorelei is disappointed by her boys bringing her cash instead of gold. Rooster’s wife storms in the bar, furious that he’s been ignoring her calls, and realizes that she has a bigger problem – her husband is suddenly in love with this weird ginger chick. Lorelei complains about the noise and he strangles his wife to death to keep her quiet.
Which is deeply disturbing.
Hunting
On the Bus, Sif tracks down Lorelei with crime reports. Coulson asks her if there are any alien races that are blue – there are many – but Sif says none have been to Earth lately.
As the team prepares to snag Lorelei, Fitz giddily introduces the new Night-Night guns – a range of weapons now called I.C.E.R.s. Unfortunately, in spite of all of their preparation, the local cops open fire after having already been bamboozled by Lorelei. Team Coulson is attacked on all sides, until Sif shoves a trailer with her foot to give them cover.
#Goddess.
In the bar, Sif faces off with Lorelei. “You mistake me for someone who fears you,” Lorelei says. Sif takes down the bikers and outside, Ward takes out Rooster… but Lorelei hops down from the roof, impressed.
“You’re a fine warrior,” she says, and though he is strong enough to resist her voice, Ward falls prey to her touch. “Take me somewhere grand,” she purrs, as he guns a motorcycle.
Ward knows just the place.
Mr. Fix-It
Back on the Bus, Sif is furious at having lost Lorelei – and what’s worse, the Collar of Silence has been broken. “Short of death,” Sif grates, “We have no means to end her enchantment.” Fitz gets to work trying to fix it, and Skye gets to work finding Ward.
Simmons asks Coulson if she can send the blood to HQ for further study. He says no – and that’s an order. Unsatisfied, Simmons bites back. Simmons says she is loyal to Coulson, “But I also have a duty as a S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist to pursue this – to save lives!”
But Coulson is angry and adamant; until they know why the GH-325 was kept so secret, he refuses to let S.H.I.E.L.D. know they have it.
Vegas, baby
Ward has taken Lorelei to Las Vegas, which is hilarious. Lorelei is impressed by the obscene tackiness, and seems to value him. Ward says he doesn’t care. “Because of what you feel?” Lorelei smiles.
“I felt something before for someone on my team,” Ward says. “It seems foolish now.” Lorelei is crushing hard on this “real man with the rage of a berserker inside,” and promises him a gift after he delivers her army.
Then they have Asgardian sex, which is kind of rough. Hope they used protection.
After, Lorelei tells Ward that she had been shacked for 600 years. Despite her earlier bravado, she is scared of Sif. Ward says he’ll take Sif out – though he may not know her, but he knows the people she’s working with.
Talking shop
May chats with Sif, who explains that though Lorelei is skilled at combat, she uses men because it gives her a thrill to take them from the women who love them. May carefully admits that Ward is incredibly lethal – one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s best.
“I have been where you are,” Sif says, almost sadly. “The man I cared for under her spell. So enchanted. Forsook his family, his friends… me. Steel yourself to do what might be necessary,” she tells May. “Agent Ward is not the man you knew.” Sif says that Ward will try to kill May.
“He might try to kill me,” May says. “But he won’t.”
Because she’s Melinda May.
Whipped
After a fruitless hunt to the empty hotel room in Vegas, Fitz announces that he has fixed the Collar of Silence. Unfortunately, he has already been bamboozled by Lorelei, and locks Sif into the cell in the center of the Bus. Sif promptly tries to beat down the walls.
Coulson and May hear Sif’s banging and realize that Ward has returned to take them out. The Bus takes off, with the blank-eyed Ward in the cockpit
Now hang on, because a lot of things start to happen at once. As Skye and Simmons realize that they are locked into Skye’s room, Coulson realizes that Fitz has been bamboozled. Lorelei intercepts May in the kitchen and wallops her a new one. Meanwhile, Ward opens the roof in Sif’s cell. The goddess of war is whipped out of the plane – though not before grabbing Lorelei’s collar.
Strong
May tries to talk sense into Ward. Lorelei taunts her, saying that Ward told her who he desired. “My dear,” Lorelei purrs, “It wasn’t you.” Ward aims his gun at May as Lorelei goes to Sif’s cell.
Sif, of course, is hanging on to the top of the Bus as Lorelei moves in to steal her sword. Sif confronts her, and Lorelei tells her to leave Earth to her. “I have orders to bring you back,” Sif says. Lorelei mocks Sif for her obedience and inability to get what she desires. They grapple over the two-handed blade, and it breaks in half as they begin to fight in earnest.
Meanwhile, Coulson frees Simmons, who distracts Fitz, who distracts Ward, who is then attacked by May. Coulson then bonks Fitz, as Simmons winces.
Finally, Sif corners Lorelei, who begs Sif to kill her rather than return her to prison. Lorelei taunts her with memories of the man she loved, but Sif slaps the Collar of Silence on her.
Ward and May’s brutal fight through the body of the Bus stops abruptly as Ward comes back to himself. May socks him anyway.
Honesty
In the aftermath, Sif apologizes for breaking Coulson’s flying boat. Coulson says it must have been hard to let Lorelei live; “Odin ordered her back alive,” Sif muses. “As one of his warriors, I bow to his will… much like your S.H.I.E.L.D., we are bound by our code. ”
(Except that Odin is totally not Odin so we don’t know what this means.)
In the cockpit, Ward offers to let May punch him again. He says he didn’t mean to hurt her; she says he didn’t, and in fact, couldn’t. “Seems like we’re done here,” she says. As he leaves, May tells him that he was more honest with Lorelei than with himself.
Keeping secrets…
In Skye’s room, Coulson explains the bizarre alien source of the GH-325 to Skye. She’s overwhelmed. He apologizes, feeling terrible at subjecting her “to unknown ramifications or side effects,” but for once, Skye speaks for all of us. It’s okay, because the stuff brought her back to life.
Coulson is fazed that Skye isn’t fazed, but she’s glad that the two of them are at least in the dark about the drug together.
“Not for long,” Coulson says. “We have a long list of questions we need answers for, and we’re going after them.” For the safety of the team, the secret will stay between Coulson and Skye.
First up? To find the person responsible… and make him pay.
…or not
But it turns out there are no secrets on the Bus. Melinda May has been listening the whole time, after which she makes her 93rd log on an encrypted line.
“He knows,” she says. “I repeat: Coulson knows.”
Say whaaaaat?
