We all remember Beetlejuice as that nightmarish movie from the late 80s, with the crazy Tim Burton prints and clay moldings. Well, now it seems there’s a sequel in the works.
In an interview at a Robocop press junket, Michael Keaton confirmed that he is in fact talking to Tim Burton about the possibilities of a sequel: “I’ve emailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff until relatively recently.
“I always said that it’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another. Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away, we’ve talked to each other, and emailed each other, and if he’s in, it’s going to be hard not to be in.”
It’s exciting to hear that if a sequel happens then at least Tim Burton will be involved, we can’t imagine a Beetlejuice 2 happening without him.
In fact, Keaton and Burton aren’t the only ones likely to return to the sequel. Last November Winona Ryder, who played Lydia in the first film, said the sequel is likely. “I’m kind of sworn to secrecy,” she said. “But it sounds like it might be happening.” She also added that it would not be a remake. “It’s 27 years later, and I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.”
Fans will either be really excited about this sequel or really dreading it. Since Beetlejuice was made in the late 80s, there are plenty of technological advancements made in the film industry that can actually make a sequel really interesting. Lets just hope it’s not in 3D.
