Our Castle season 6, episode 12 recap looks at Rick as he struggles with the reappearance of his father and the murder he may be involved in.
Castle opens with someone dialing 911 and leaving the phone line open next to a dead body in a shower. It then cuts to Kate and Rick discussing wedding dates! They can’t seem to find a time when they are both free. Martha chimes in that they should just go down to city hall. They share an awkward look and decide to keep looking for dates.
Kate gets a call and they head to the crime scene. Rick makes a naughty joke about Kate being flexible as they take in the scene. The victim’s name is Ted; he runs a used record store but owns an amazing apartment. He also has a laptop that contains encryption software like no one has ever seen.
When speaking with Ted’s father, they discover that he used to be a hacker and has been forbidden to use computers. When he was younger, he stole people’s identities and gave money to the poor like Robin Hood. Kate sends a fresh-from-maternity-leave Ryan to check out automotive shops where Ted may have been killed.
Kate and Rick go to investigate Anderson Cross, whose name was found on Ted’s computer. As they enter the office building, Rick gets a mysterious phone call from none other than his father, Jackson Hunt. The message is ominous: “Lives are at stake, don’t react.” Rick then sees his father walk in as Anderson Cross. When Kate is out of hearing range, Rick says, “Dad!” Rick’s father replies, “Not a word.”
Kate, none the wiser, begins to question Anderson Cross about Ted. Rick looks amazingly uncomfortable while his father answers all of Kate’s questions smoothly. At the end of the meeting, Kate asks Mr. Cross if they have ever met before but he says, “ Ijust have one of those faces.”
In autopsy, Laine explains that the killer was looking for something. Ted had a coin in his shoe but from what Laine can tell, it had little to no value. Rick is quiet throughout Laine’s presentation and Kate senses something isn’t right. Rick gets a phone call telling him to meet in the park. Kate heads to Coney Island to look for the crime scene.
Rick meets with his father in the park. He wants information about the murder. Hunt says that there is a storm coming and he is the only one that can stop it. He is evasive and Rick isn’t sure how to take his behavior. Hunt tells him not to discuss him with anyone, including his fiancé. Rick is shocked that Hunt knows anything about him.
Back at the precinct, Esposito is reviewing the security footage from Coney Island. Esposito calls the others in to show them what he found, Anderson Cross walking into the park after the victim. Kate automatically assumes he is the murderer. Rick is at a complete loss for words.
Kate is convinced that Cross is the killer and begins to hypothesize about what happened with Ted and Cross. Rick tries to throw them off the trail but Kate is certain he is the killer. When Kate goes to look into the company, it’s gone. Kate remembers where she saw Cross before; he was the man in the sketches from Alexis’ kidnapping.
Kate continues to explain that the man is ex-CIA and wanted by the government for an unsanctioned assassination. He also busted out of prison and killed three guards in the process. Rick is clearly distraught over this information and tries to reach Hunt with no response.
Rick returns to his apartment and fills Martha in on what has been happening. Martha admits that they don’t really know him. She feels Rick should confide in Kate. A knock at the door interrupts them and Martha answers to discover Hunt, who has been shot.
Martha sets to work on cleaning up Hunt. Rick has to operate on dear old dad and remove the bullet. As Hunt stitches himself up, Rick asks about his standing with the CIA. Kate shows up and Rick introduces her to his father. She doesn’t take it well.
Hunt tells Kate that he will tell her what is going on but she can’t turn him in. Ted was working with Hunt to help the CIA find stolen intel. Hunt tells Kate everything that happened to him and how he got shot, but Kate stills doesn’t believe him.
Esposito calls Kate to let her know that Ted was involved in some serious spy business. They are at Ted’s apartment where he set up some hacking equipment. Hunt pulls a hard drive from his pocket, which Ted had been using. The information on the hard drive suggestions that the CIA information is being sold that evening.
Hunt tries to leave to stop the sale but Rick objects. He insists Hunt is in no shape to stop anything. Kate speaks up and decides that she and Rick will go instead. Hunt reluctantly agrees and explains the plan to them. Hunt gives Rick a hug before he leaves.
Martha threatens Hunt that if anything happens to them, he will pay. They share a moment of reminiscing and Hunt seems to be ill. Martha puts him to bed and goes to get him juice. When she, returns Hunt is gone.
Kate and Rick go to the library to intervene in the sale and catch the killer. As Rick mans the computer, Kate searches the library only to discover that they’ve been set up by the killer. Rick is taken hostage as the murderer knows he is a plant. Hunt shows up to take out the killer and protect Rick.
In the end, everything is wrapped up in a nice bow by the CIA. Rick feels that Hunt brought the case into Kate’s district so he could pump Rick for information. Rick decides that he and Kate will get married in September! Season 7 could open in a big way!
What did you think about the return of Rick’s dad? Will we really have to wait for the wedding or will we get it in the season finale?
