'Frozen' DVD, Blu-ray release date, special features

The film’s synopsis reads, “Fearless optimist Anna sets off on an epic journey — teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven — to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. • Chelsea

I wish they would put ALL the special features on DVD too! Wait, am I the only one without a Blu-ray player?

    • Liderc

Probably not the only one, but Blu-ray has become the standard over the last few years. It’s actually been out since 2006, so getting fairly mature (and cheap) now.

One really nice thing is they can fit a lot more HD data on each blu-ray disc, so that’s probably why you’re seeing the special features thing happening.

Also, if you buy the blu-ray you get the DVD anyways, so might as well buy the blu-ray and start collecting for if/when you get a blu-ray player and use the DVD right now.

Plus, most blu-ray players allow you to stream netflix/itunes/google play movies and tv shows wirelessly, so it becomes a valuable piece of hardware and they only cost around $50 bucks now, compared to when I bought one a couple years back for $200. It’s a perfect time to buy really, we won’t see a new format for at least 5-6 years and it will take another 3-4 for it to become the standard again.

I’ve rambled on enough, hope you enjoy Frozen! =)

      • Chelsea

        Very good points! Thank you!

        • Mary

You can also play blu-rays through most game systems- xBox an so on.

          • Zetra3

Id Like to correct and say only THREE consoles have Blu-ray. Ps3, Ps4, and Xbox one.

          • LolzxD03

Great comment, sir! You spared much of my time correcting the guy above.

Since so many people around the world including the elderly have switched to 1080p flat screens of some kind most have also switched to the format meant for these kinds of displays IE Blu Ray. As cheap as they have become it is kinda silly to switch to a HD display but retain the outdated format meant for an outdated display.

When looking at special features be mindful that a typical DVD holds 4.37GB of data as opposed to a Blu Ray that holds 25GB. It’s like asking why your first I-phone doesn’t have the features of the Galaxy S4.

We are seeing the beginnings of a new format currently as 4k and 3D displays are becoming more common and cheaper. In another decade we hopefully won’t have optical discs like blu rays and DVDs at all. As 1 Terabyte Hard drives are piling up in overstock and SD cards exceed 250GB.

        • Jones

A typical DVD holds 8,5 GB, not 4,3 – more than enough to hold the extras! Besides, it´s always possible to issue a 2 disc set. And the day they stop issuing discs will be the day I stop bying movies, period.

  • BillK

No idea of what’s going on at Amazon, who are quoting a delivery date of January 24 – 30!

    That makes absolutely zero sense.

    • DadfortwoGirls

Amazon just wrote to me and said:

      “Frozen (Two-Disc Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy)”
      Estimated arrival date: January 24, 2014 – January 30, 2014

I thought it was too soon to be released.

      • BillK

They’ve corrected their error and the release date is now back to March 18.

  • Frozen Fan 27

Frozen is the best Disney movie yet and I am sooo excited for the dvd release date! I am 29 years old and I am NOT ashamed to tell the world I love Disney and American girl dolls.

  • Joseph Delahanty

Um… Amazon just sent me an email yesterday on when to expect Blu Ray… Am I getting early for being a great customer lol ”
    “Frozen (Two-Disc Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy)”

    • BillK

That’s the exact error; no matter what Amazon says, they can’t ship the Blu-rays before Disney releases it.

The only way this could happen is if, like the 3D Blu-ray being a Wal-Mart exclusive, they give Amazon a two month jump on street dates for the disc.

    • elsa

      liar

  • Diana Foree

I’m older than most of you and went with my 32 yo daughter and loved it. She’s seen it 3x already!

  • SNOW WOMEN LOVER

It is up there with lion king SECOND BEST DISNEY MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!

  • NinjaOfFire

My sister thought of this right after we saw it. She staged ‘Let it Go’ and made costume designs for broadway. Then we heard this, and our brains EXPLODED. Frozen is my new all-time favorite movie. It would be really cool if they cast Idina Menzel as Elsa for broadway, as she voiced Elsa, and has been on broadway before (namely as Elphaba in Wicked).

  • LolzxD03

I’m not much in movie theater, since today you can almost create one at your house. But as Hobbit, I made sure to watch Frozen at the best cinema I could find. And my hopes were not denied. Great movie. The fuckin’ capitalist Disney excelled again.
“am I the only one without a Blu-ray player?”
Holy shit, man. Before anything, why don’t u have one? Isn’t like this have a high price. Even with a living wage you would be able to buy it. If it was some years ago, you could say it was ’cause the price of the bd was high, but it isn’t anymore. It’s worth it.
In the following years, people will ask “Am I the only without a 3D player?”.
____Not going to buy it yet. Where’s my 3D version?! I heard it was going to be delayed… No confirmation, though. Christ.
    Thanks for the news!
[Sorry for post as anonymous, I have no social network. These things sucks. "Am I the only one without a Facebook acc?" LOL. I think I can't say much about others, can I? But I still think you should buy a BD player. A 3D one, actually.]

  • Alyssa

  • jdthird

I’m a 46 year old male who took his 10 year old son to see it today for the first time. We both loved it so much I had downloaded the expanded soundtrack from Amazon within a minute or two of getting our snow covered shoes off when we walked back in the house. Tomorrow we’re going to see it again, this time the Sing-a-Long version. This and Tangled are the two favorites we have as far as Disney releases go…

  • Connor Fullmer
