Streets ahead! The much-anticipated Harmon-returning, Glover-leaving, Community season 5 commences tonight with a one hour premiere at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
There’s also so much to talk about when it comes to Community, even during the “off-season.” Creators returning! Cast leaving! Cast arriving! Dean Pelton’s outfit changing! But now Greendale Christmas has finally arrived in the New Year, and we get our first new episodes of the fifth season tonight.
The one-hour Community season 5 premiere consists of two episodes: “Repilot” and “Introduction to Teaching.”
Here is a rundown of everything we know about the two episodes.
- The premiere will introduce the concept of “repilot-ing,” i.e. changing the direction of the existing show late in its run. There will be many Scrubs season 9 references to hammer this home.
- Jonathan Banks of Breaking Bad fame joins the cast as a teacher at Greendale. Early reviews indicate that he more or less takes Pierece Hawthorne’s position in the show. Rob Corddry will also return.
- Jeff will return to Greendale as a professor.
- Chang will be slightly less insane, or at least forget about his “Changnesia.”
- We will get a sense as to why Troy will be leaving the group in the midseason finale.
- Abed will take a class about Nicholas Cage.
And the most important detail: Apparently the first two episodes are going to be very, very good. We don’t have a MetaCritic score to provide yet, but here are some stellar reviews.
Regardless it should at least be an interesting night with Dan Harmon and company getting a fresh start.
