The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple has shared a little more about what the future holds for the humans when season 4 resumes next year.
TV Guide confirms that Rick and Carl will be out on their own at the start of season 4B when it kicks off in February, and the latter character will be stepping up as a leader. Papa Rick will reportedly be suffering from the loss of Judith who (may have) died during the midseason finale late last month.

“It’s going to hit [Rick] in a way that we haven’t seen before,” Gimple says. “If it’s just the two of them, [Carl is] going to have to step up quite a bit because circumstances are wildly different and a lot will depend on him in terms of them just surviving. They don’t have an awesome, dual-layer fence and brick buildings to hide behind. They’re out in the world.”
A trailer for The Walking Dead season 4B shows each of the lead characters on the run and possibly on their own.
On The Talking Dead after the midseason finale, Lauren Cohan suggested that there may be an unspoken plan that will help the group reunite.
If you’re looking to catch up on The Walking Dead or witness the entire series so far, AMC will be airing a full marathon beginning New Years Eve.
The Walking Dead season 4, episode 8 airs Sunday.
Thanks, TV Guide.
