Calling all Nerdfighters, YouTube lovers, and kind souls of the internet! The 2013 Project for Awesome is underway and is already a huge success! Check out all the details below!
Seven years ago, the Project for Awesome debuted with the intention to fill YouTube’s popular page with videos for good rather than cats playing pianos. Today, the two-day ambush of YouTube features videos made to raise awareness for whichever charity they choose.They are then submitted to the Project for Awesome website, where viewers vote on which videos they think are the best.
The charities featured in the top ten most voted on videos will split all of the money raised over the year by The Foundation to Decrease World Suck.
In addition to taking over YouTube with charitable videos, Hank and John Green are hosting a marathon 48-hour livestream. Throughout the next two days, the Green brothers will showcase Project for Awesome videos that viewers will all watch and comment together on. The Project for Awesome highlights the power of what a community can do when they band together and work to decrease the amount of suck that exists in the world.

As of 2013, The Foundation to Decrease World Suck is an official government sanctioned 501(c)3 charitable organization! A non-profit that raises funds to help non-profits? Awesome! The Indiegogo page has already surpassed its goal of $100,000 well under the first 3 hours of the livestream event. The Green brothers will continue to switch on and off hosting, commenting, singing, reading, and promoting charities until 12 p.m. on December 19.
