A new report from The Oxford Times reveals the young boy who will serve as the model for Ron Weasley in the upcoming illustrated Harry Potter series.
14-year-old Duncan Cooper, Year 10 at Burdford School, was selected by series illustrator Jim Kay and J.K. Rowling. He will be the boy Kay uses as a model for the drawings of Ron Weasley in Bloomsbury’s re-issuing of the Harry Potter series which will be fully illustrated for the first time ever.
According to The Oxford Times, Kay visited Cooper’s school in July and took photos of kids who he thought could be the models for the kids in the series.
Said Kay, “I met Duncan very briefly on a visit to Burford School, and despite it being a fleeting visit, and Duncan being a quiet sort of chap, I remembered him, and thought he’d be a good inspiration for Ron.”
A photo of the boy is below. Do you see the similarities (except for the red hair)?
Presumably Kay will work with Cooper and the other models over the next seven-ish years, and their real growth will be reflected in the various characters’ illustrations in this revamped Harry Potter series.
So far Cooper is the only known model for the books. When Bloomsbury announced the illustrated Harry Potter books earlier this month, we were only treated to a photo of Harry who looks like a young Dan Radcliffe.
Bloomsbury says they will release one new illustrated Potter book a year beginning in 2015.
Thanks, Oxford Times.
