Family Guy’s Brian is back three weeks after his surprising death.
The beloved animated dog was killed in late November during an episode of Family Guy when he was hit by a car.
On tonight’s episode of Family Guy, Brian is brought back from the dead thanks to Stewie. The toddler visits the mall with their new dog Vinnie and asks Santa for Brian. The wish can’t be granted, but afterwards Stewie spots himself from the past browsing the mall and remembers that past-Stewie has the time machine. Vinnie distracts past-Stewie while present day-Stewie steals the time machine out of his backpack. He then goes back in time and saves Brian right before he gets hit by a car.
Once the two friends are safe and Stewie fills Brian in on what happened, the latter quips that other families would have just forgotten about their dead dog and purchased a new one (a joke to viewers because that’s exactly what the Griffin family did).
In a touching moment, Brian gives Stewie a picture of the two best friends for Christmas.
Series creator Seth MacFarlane took to Twitter after the episode aired to share his thoughts:
And thus endeth our warm, fuzzy holiday lesson: Never take those you love for granted, for they can be gone in a flash.

I mean, you didn't really think we'd kill off Brian, did you? Jesus, we'd have to be fucking high.

Oh and hey… thanks for caring so much about the canine Griffin. He is overcome with gratitude.

Many viewers were skeptical of Brian’s death when it initially occurred and saw it as a publicity stunt. While the question of it being a stunt is up in the air, we’re glad to see that Brian is back if only for Stewie’s sake.
Family Guy was created by Seth MacFarlane, who voices Brian amongst other characters. New episodes air Sundays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
