These ten actors were paid far too much when looking at their box office returns, according to Forbes.

Forbes’ Most Overpaid Actors of 2013 list is compiled by analyzing the amount the actor was paid versus how much the film made at the box office.

1. Adam Sandler (Returns $3.40 for every dollar paid)
2. Katherine Heigl ($3.50)
3. Reese Witherspoon ($3.90)
4. Nicolas Cage ($6.00)
5. Kevin James ($6.10)
6. Denzel Washington ($8.30)
7. Steve Carell ($10.00)
8. Jennifer Aniston ($10.60)
9. Matt Damon ($10.60)
10. Ryan Reynolds ($10.70)

Forbes says they came to these results by taking the last three movies each actor starred in between June 2010 and June 2013. The publication notes that if the actor doesn’t appear in as many films as they used to, they could be disqualified. For example, Drew Barrymore has appeared on the list in past years but didn’t have enough movies for the 2013 list to qualify.

Perhaps Carell – a newcomer to the pack – will be able to fall out of this list thanks to the help of Anchorman 2 which hits theaters later this month.

Sandler topped the list because of recent flops That’s My Boy and Jack & Jill. Grown Ups 2 was not included in this list because of its relatively recent debut.

Thanks, Forbes.

  • Braulio is :O

For the amount of work they do in contrast of any other job in the world. Actors are (along with politicians) the most overpaid people in the world.

    • Amy

Sorry to be nit-pick-y – but I think you mean celebrities – as actors in general who are not “famous” actually do not get payed that much at all.

      • Braulio is :O

        You’re right! Thanks! :D

so the smaller the number, the more overpaid they are? im not quite understanding the numbers and terminology being used… anyone care to enlighten?

    • hpboy13

Sure. Take Adam Sandler – his number is $3.40 for every dollar paid. That means that he gets paid, let’s say, $10 million to star in a movie, but the movie only makes $34 million. In contrast, Jen Aniston returns $10.60, so if you pay her $10 million, then the movie makes $106 million. Therefore, Sandler is more overpaid than Aniston, because his movies don’t bring in money despite his high salary.

Spelled Katherine Heigl wrong in the title.
