Season 5’s finalists were announced last night, as two contestants were sent home from The Voice in the toughest eliminations yet.
Finalists revealed
Adam Levine knew going into this week that he was definitely making it into the finale, as he still had three contestants in the competition, but he had no idea how many of his contestants would be saved. He was struck a tough blow right off the bat, as his favorite contestant, James Wolpert, was the first to be eliminated this week.
Shortly after the tough elimination news, Team Adam’s Tessanne Chin was revealed as the first contestant to make it through to the finale. Christina was thrilled to make it to the finale as well, when her last remaining contestant, Jacquie Lee, made it through.
It came down to Team Blake’s last remaining contestant, Cole Vosbury, and Team Adam’s underdog, Will Champlin. In the end, Blake Shelton’s reign as winning coach has finally ended, as Will was revealed to be the last season 5 finalist to make it through. We lost James Wolpert and Cole Vosbury, but we have a great finale to look forward to, with performances from Tessanne Chin, Jacquie Lee, and Will Champlin.
‘The Voice’ alumni performances
The Swon Brothers
Season 4 alumni The Swon Brothers kicked off the show with a performance of their new single “Later On.” It was great to see last season’s finalists back on The Voice stage, and they seemed thrilled to be there. Their harmonies were perfect, as always, and this was another fun performance, proving that they have a great future ahead of them in country music.
Michelle Chamuel
The season 4 homecoming continued with a visit from runner-up Michelle Chamuel. Michelle took the stage to perform her new song “Go Down Singing.” Not only was it a great showcase for Michelle’s awesome vocals, but it was also a song with a great message about being yourself and not letting other people bring you down. Michelle had quite the journey as part of Team Usher, and really came into her own and found a lot of confidence through her time on the show. It’s great to see her spreading that message to the world.
Cassadee Pope
Another familiar face to return to The Voice stage this week was season 3 winner Cassadee Pope, who performed her new single “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart.” It’s still interesting to see Cassadee as a country girl now, because that was not really her persona when she was on the show, but it certainly suits her. “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart” is a really catchy pop-country tune, and even better than her debut single “Wasting All These Tears” (Which was revealed to have just gone gold).
Danielle Bradbery
And the reunion continued with last season’s winner, Danielle Bradbery. Danielle performed her new single “Never Like This.” This was a little bit of a darker, more mature song than “Heart of Dixie,” but another solid hit from Danielle. She continues to impress with a talent well beyond her years. Blake certainly knows how to tutor his country girls onto success.
‘The Voice’ Confessional
This week’s The Voice Confessional was holiday themed, as the top 5 and the coaches dissected the meaning of the holiday classic, “The 12 Days of Christmas.” Tessanne wondered what a partridge was, and Blake naturally assumed the song was about The Partridge Family. They sang, laid eggs, tooted horns, and had an all-around great time. But in the end, Adam reminded everyone to have a Happy Hanukkah as well.
Tune in next week for live live performance finale on Monday at 8 p.m., and the live results show on Tuesday at 9 p.m. on NBC.
