BBC gave us a pleasant surprise today, with the trailer for the Sherlock series 3 premiere! Check out the brand new footage that gives us great insight into what this series has in store.
In the series premiere trailer, we hear Watson explain that he doesn’t care about how he faked his death, but rather why. We also hear Sherlock explaining that Watson was the one person who mattered most (queue Johnlock squeals). Alright, enough with the teasing, just watch the trailer!
In the trailer we see Sherlock talking about how he’ll want to surprise John at Baker Street, but his brother Mycroft explains that it’s been two years since the accident and John has moved on. And then we get to see a fantastic little shot of Mrs. Hudson screaming bloody murder, probably because she’d just seen Sherlock for the first time since his death. With two years gone by, we definitely don’t blame her!
When Lestrade explains that the terror level has reached to critical and Mycroft says an attack is coming, Sherlock says that he needs “to get to know London again, breathe it in,” it gets us plenty excited for his reintroduction, which probably leads to the mass texts that say “Sherlock Lives” that we saw in a trailer just a couple weeks ago.
The trailer above is also interactive, so feel free to click on the red circles when they pop up to get more information like special interviews and more audio/video clips from the premiere.
Last week it was announced that Sherlock series 3 will premiere in the U.K. on January 1, at 9:00 p.m. GST on BBC One. This comes just over two weeks before the series will air in the U.S. on PBS on January 19. There’s still a bunch of time for spoilers to reach the Internet though, so we wish those who’re waiting in the U.S. luck in avoiding those nasty bits!

And don’t forget that before the series premiere this January there’ll be a mini episode to air on BBC One on Christmas Day, titled “Many Happy Returns.” The synopsis reads “Sherlock has been gone for 2 years. But someone isn’t quite convinced that he’s dead…” And the most common theory, especially with the trailer just released, is that the mini episode will show us Sherlock’s reveal to his brother Mycroft.
We can’t wait for Sherlock to come back to our television screens, as it’s been way too long!
