A sinister figure gets a violent change of address in the ominous opening sequence of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 10.
The opening sequence of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 10 has been released, kicking off the show’s winter finale with more than one definitive “bang.”
The episode, titled “The Bridge,” will bring Agent Coulson and his team into direct conflict with the poorly-intentioned organization called Centipede. The violent events of the episode’s opening sequence give us a hint as to why the threat Centipede poses has suddenly become urgent. You can check out the full sneak peek on Entertainment Weekly.
In the clip, viewers are re-introduced to Edison Po (Cullen Douglas,) who appeared briefly in a prison conversation in the tag to “The Girl In The Flower Dress.” The even-keeled Mr. Po is a prisoner at Havenworth Federal Penitentiary (so he’s clearly a keeper) where he enjoys a meal at a table where no one else is allowed to sit.
Because Mr. Po is kind of a jerkface.
Without warning, the mess hall is blown open and invaded by several men with the strength-surging Centipede device embedded in their arms. As the guards panic under the onslaught, one man approaches Po and tells him, “It’s time to go.” Po continues to eat calmly until the man addresses him as “sir” (see above observation about his being a jerkface) at which point Po deigns to be rappelled up out of the prison by his rescuers.
The emergence of Mr. Po from his incarceration certainly indicates that Centipede will be stepping up their game from this point forward. Accordingly, stills released from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 10 show that their flowery-dressed operative Raina (Ruth Negga) will also return to aid the organization’s evil, super-soldiery pursuits.
On the side of good, Agent Coulson’s team will be bolstered by the addition of Mike Peterson (Angel‘s J. August Richards) who was experimented upon by Centipede and was saved by Team Coulson in the pilot episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The official summary for “The Bridge” promises that the excitement of the opening sequence will be matched by the rest of the episode.
In a shocking cliffhanger episode, Coulson takes the war back to Centipede, and this time he brings in Mike Peterson for some super-soldier support. As they get closer to the truth, startling secrets are revealed and an unexpected twist threatens the team.
Hey, who doesn’t love a cliffhanger? Especially as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be taking its holiday hiatus after this episode… hold us…
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 10 “The Bridge” will air on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
