Fans of The Chronicles of Narnia were thrilled in October when we learned a fourth movie was in the works. Today, The Silver Chair’s screenwriter has been announced.
David Magee will pen the fourth film in the movie series based on the books by C.S. Lewis, who’s company signed a deal for the upcoming movie this past October. Said Magee about today’s news, “I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia, and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday. All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it.”
It’s comforting to see that Magee is a fan of the source material, and should bode well for those who want to keep the franchise in caring hands.
Magee is best known most recently for his Life of Pi script. The film won Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Score, and Best Visual Effects at the 2013 Academy Awards. Magee’s screenplay was nominated but did not win. He also wrote the scripts for Finding Neverland and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.
Before a deal for The Silver Chair was signed, the film series almost went out of order and skipped to the fifth book by Lewis titled The Magician’s Newphew.
The Chronicles of Narnia film series has made $1.6 million so far at the box office. Lewis’ series is made up of seven books, so in theory we could end up having at least that many movies. It all depends on each new movie performing well at the box office.
Do you think ‘The Silver Chair’ is in safe hands?
