The first photos from the set of Paul McGuigan’s Frankenstein have surfaced, featuring Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role playing Igor.
Frankenstein, which was penned by Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis, is a reimagining of the classic story from the perspective of Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein’s assistant, Igor. Radcliffe is joined in the film by James McAvoy as the doctor, while Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Findlay Brown will play the female lead who grows close with Igor. Director Paul McGuigan has previously directed Push, Lucky Number Slevin, and most recently, BBC’s Sherlock
The Daily Mail has debuted the first image of Radcliffe from the set of Frankenstein, as we finally have a glimpse at the character. The long hair and period wardrobe is certainly an intriguing look, and we’ll be sure to keep track of this film and Radcliffe’s involvement as it nears closer to release.
Radcliffe described the script in a recent interview as “the most original script I’ve read coming out of a studio since finishing Potter.”
Radcliffe added of the script: “[Landis has] taken the mythologies that we all think we know – we have this idea of a monster and a crazy scientist and kind of a hunchbacked assistant – but we don’t really know where all these parts came from. I think what Max [Landis] has done with this is first of all he’s given Igor a backstory which you never really see before. And so, that’s I think one of the biggest differences is that you’ll finally see him granted a life and a backstory and it’s about these two young guys at the forefront of science.”
‘Frankenstein’ is set for a January 16, 2015 release date
