The summary for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 10 has been released, revealing the return of J. August Richards to the wild Marvel universe.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 10 will air on Dec. 10 on ABC, and the summary for the episode indicates that the show’s slowly-percolating season-long story will soon be coming to a head.
As announced by Marvel.com, the episode – titled “The Bridge” – will feature the return of J. August Richards (known to fans of Joss Whedon’s Angel as Gunn) in the role of Mike Peterson. The official summary for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 10 tells us why Peterson is coming back into the picture.
In a shocking cliffhanger episode, Coulson takes the war back to Centipede, and this time he brings in Mike Peterson for some super-soldier support. As they get closer to the truth, startling secrets are revealed and an unexpected twist threatens the team.
Richards originated the role of Mike Peterson, an every-man whose hard luck leads him to submit to dangerous experiments by the nefarious Project Centipede, in the pilot episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The character was warmly received by many viewers, and Richards thanked fans for their support on his Twitter account.
You guys really showed up for me by making it known you wanted me back on #AgentsofSHIELD I really felt the LOVE!!! Thank you!!!

It will be great to see Richards return to the role of Peterson – especially since the character wasn’t doing too well when he last appeared – and we can’t wait to see what inspires Agent Coulson to turn his gaze directly on Project Centipede. The group has largely lurked in the shadows of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. thus far, but their determination to reproduce a Captain America-esque super-soldier serum has already threatened the lives of many.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 10 will air after a one-week hiatus following next week’s episode, “Repairs.” The promise of a cliffhanger ending to “The Bridge” may hint at another break to follow the episode, but we certainly hope ABC resolves the story before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. takes its holiday hiatus!
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
