Fox has released the first photos from Glee season 5, episode 8, titled “Previously Unaired Christmas.”

Glee’s lost Christmas episode was teased in October by Ryan Murphy, and in a later interview co-star Darren Criss played equally coy when asked about its chances of being released.

A synopsis for Glee season 5, episode 8 reads “Sue Sylvester introduces the episode as a Christmas special that FOX did not allow to air from last year. The members of New Directions audition for roles in McKinley’s living Nativity Scene. Meanwhile in New York, Rachel, Kurt and Santana work as Santa’s elves at a mall.”

Notably, this is Glee’s fall finale before it moves to Tuesdays beginning in February.

The photos from the episode don’t show the actual special. Instead, they depict the other half of the synopsis during which Rachel, Kurt, and Santana work at a mall. They also spend some time caroling in a store window front.

Glee season 5, episode 8′s song list is as follows:

- “Here Comes Santa Claus (Down Santa Claus Lane)” (Rachel / Kurt & Santana)
- “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” (New Directions)
- “Mary’s Little Boy Child” (Unique & Tina)
- “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” (Rachel / Kurt / Santana & Cody)
- “Love Child” (Unique / Marley & Tina)
- “Away In A Manger” (New Directions Featuring Rachel / Kurt & Santana)

Despite a line up of Christmas songs, there won’t be a holiday album this year. Surely these songs will still hit iTunes as an EP, meaning you will get holiday songs from the show.

Glee’s Christmas episode airs Thursday, December 5 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on Fox.

I’m not sure what to think

  • popprincess5678

There is a Christmas album, its a Walmart exclusive though.

  • Marie

    No.

    No Kurt/Blaine duet?

    • StringPhoenix

They already said this is set back a year ago and while Blaine did go visit Kurt for Christmas Eve, they were broken up at this point and so there’s no reason Blaine would be in NYC.

season 4 and 5 are the same year. so a year ago… would mean that kurt rachel and santanna are still seniors in high school,

        • StringPhoenix

Yes, Seasons 4 and 5 are the same year. But Kurt, Rachel, and Santana were seniors in High School during Season 3 and they (along with Finn, Puck, Mercedes, Mike Chang, and Quinn) graduated at the END of Season 3, after which Rachel got put on a train to New York by Finn. Season 4 began a NEW school year which introduced Marley, Ryder, and Jake as sophomores. SO… this “lost” Christmas episode is set during the same timeline of LAST year’s (season 4′s) Christmas episode (titled “Glee, Actually”), and again, Kurt and Blaine were broken up during that episode even though Blaine did go visit him on Christmas Eve, but this lost episode may not feature a duet because unless this episode is set on the same night when they went ice skating together, then there’s no reason to have them do a duet. Your version of “a year ago” is actually two years ago, when the Christmas episode featured the Glee cast and the Cheerios filming a Christmas special with Rory as an elf.

it seems NY-centric so I’m ok with it!

  • awkwardjenny

Hahaha, as a former Santaland elf (at the Herald Square Macys) I can officially state that there are no mall elves in the world dressed as sexually as Rachel and Santana! While they look absolutely slammin’ it’s just funny remembering the red and green burlap sacks we were dressed in! I’m molto jealous ;)

Can they please bring Harmony (Lindsay Pearce) back so she and Unique can sing “Do You Hear What I Hear”?! It’s one of my faves on Vol. 2!!!

    • mo

yes yes yes yes yes i was thinking this a few days ago!!!!

  • K@

So if this episode takes place several months before where we are in the series now, how interesting will it be? There can’t be much plot or character devolpment… It seems like an excuse to generate iTunes sales for the holiday season.

    • Andy

That is exactly what it is.

  • Bobbi

Only the writers of Glee would think a “lost” Christmas episode was a good way to head into a hiatus. This time would have been better spent on Nationals/Graduation so there could at least be the hope of something new or fresh when the series returns. Honestly, this show is just exhausting sometimes.

  • Dev Kulac

that makes no sense… because they are still in freshman year of college.. so a year ago they were seniors in high school. the writers do not know what they are doing

This extended season is / was a bad idea. Now a Christmas special that happens before the last seasons Christmas episode where Rachel went on a cruise with her dads, before Kurt’s dad and Blaine come to visit for Christmas Eve, where Santana was still pretending to attend University of Louisville, and Finn was still alive. This will be episode 8 and prom was episode 2 this season. Due high schools in Ohio have there proms in March or April? This school year needs to be over. I figure the writers split the cast in season 4 so viewers would get use to the new group of kids, but storylines are too disjointed and the timeline is too confusing. If the writes were going to stick to this wacked timeline they needed to skip Christmas. Fix Tina’s and move her to NY with everyone else, since everyone on glee moves to NY. I like Kitty with Artie, but the rest of the kids are a bit boring. The high school story has run it’s course.
