Delivery Man comes out in theaters tomorrow, and Hypable sat down with Vince Vaughn to discuss the film and how it differs from the 2011 French-Canadian film, Starbuck.
For those who aren’t in the know, “Starbuck” is the name of a famous breeding stud that fathered thousands of horse-proginy. In Delivery Man, Vince Vaughn’s David Wozniak anonymously delivers the same contribution to a fertility clinic under that same moniker, landing him the paternal responsibility of 533 (now teenaged) children, including some that are suing to find out who he is.
Luckily, his lawyer-buddy Brett (played by the always-on-top-of-his-game and future Star-Lord Chris Pratt) is willing to extend his aid in the form of legal services intended to block the suit. Unluckily (for David at least), his girlfriend Emma (who, did we mention, is played by Cobie friggin’ Smulders) is ready to announce that she too has a baby on the way, bringing Wozniak’s total to 534.
In our interview with Vaughn, he seemed very centered on the fact that this is a film with heart, and that his character’s arc is about learning to identify his capacity for love.
Vaughn stressed how much of a visionary director Ken Scott was to bring the story behind Starbuck to American audiences. Many a foreign film have suffered through domestic releases that don’t capture the essence of the original, but according to Vaughn, having the same writer and director that wrote the original at the helm alleviated his fears.
Ken Scott and Vince Vaughn will be teaming up again in next year’s Business Trip featuring Tom Wilkinson and Dave Franco, which according to Vaughn, will be a film much like Delivery Man in that it will manage to strike a balance between laughter and sentimentality.
On the less sentimental side, we’ll be seeing Vaughn again in Anchorman 2, and although he didn’t drop us any spoilers about the continuing legend, he did manage to use the word “surprise” in his response, which gets us all excited in a “I guess so” kind of way.
