The Tomorrow People’s sixth episode, “Sorry for Your Loss,” explored Russell’s background while adding a new kink in a romantic entanglement for Stephen. Beware of spoilers as you read on.
The Tomorrow People begins with a flashback to seven years ago when Russell (Aaron Yoo) is auditioning for a piano position. His father watches in the wings and gives him criticism even though he has been selected for the position. Russell, or Ryung as he’s named, tells his father about weird things happening to him, but his father does not listen. What do you think of Russell’s background?
Meanwhile back in present day, Russell hustles pool to help Stephen (Robbie Amell) support his family. Russell is fooled by a pretty rich girl who happens to be a breakout. Looks like Piper is scared of her powers and runs out of there. Stephen and Russell go to help her however are taken down with pool cue.
After getting reprimanded by Cara (Peyton List) and John (Luke Mitchell) for going topside, Russell learns from Tim (Dan Stevens) that his father has passed away. Cara feels guilty over her dead colleagues and avoids talking with John. She maintains that she is not upset about his ability to kill but rather his intention on blocking her out.
Russell tries to go to his father’s funeral, but Cara tells him he can’t have any contact with his human life. John offers to go with him to make sure he gets there in time and safely. John promises Cara that they’ll talk when he gets back, but asks her to maintain security at the lair.
Darcy (Meta Golding) tells Stephen to make sure Astrid (Madeline Mantock) doesn’t interfere in his work at Ultra but promises not to tell Jedikiah (Mark Pellegrino). When Stephen asks Cara for help finding Piper before Ultra, she refuses until he pressures her and insults her position as John’s girlfriend and lackey.
Russell reveals his intense training schedule under his father and flashes back to when he was a card shark due to his powers. Cara and Stephen stake out the pool hall where he met Piper and flirt a bit before they find her. Piper jumps before they can talk to her and in order to distract Ultra agents, Stephen decides to make out with Cara. The CW officially has another love triangle.
Russell decides to make some new friends at a bar and is a bit too honest about his new friend Trixie’s thoughts. He gets beat up and John decides to join the fun. All’s fun until John punches a police officer. We like this bromance.
Stephen and Cara continue to look for Piper as he relays stories of his girlfriends and blatantly flirts with her, calling her name pretty. Apparently Cara has only dated John and deems Stephen a ‘televirgin’ as he has not dated one of them, and thus has not experienced the intimacy.
