The Book Thief‘s unique narrator now has a voice. Veteran actor Roger Allam will be playing (spoiler).
According to a review on Variety, the character of Death will be voiced by Roger Allam.
Roger Allam is a renowned stage and screen actor. He has previously starred in V for Vendetta, The Woman in Black and The Thick of It. However, he is perhaps most well known for his role of Javert in the original production of Les Misérables.
Most critically for this role, Allam is also a talented radio actor. Check out the clip below for a taste of what we might expect from Allam’s performance in The Book Thief.
The Book Thief was screened at the Mill Valley Film Festival, and so far the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. The cast and filmmakers also received a standing ovation for the film’s opening.
It was always likely that after the film started screening, the actor behind this coveted role would be made public.
The Book Thief stars newcomer Sophie Nélisse alongside Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson. The film is directed by Brian Percival (Downtown Abbey), and is scored by 5-time Academy Award Winner John Williams.
The film is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Markus Zusak. The first poster was recently released, showing Liesel (Nélisse) in the act of thievery.
The Book Thief is set for limited release beginning November 8, 2013.
