Universal Studios Hollywood is preparing itself for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
On Tuesday a major step forward took place: The Gibson Amphitheater, the long-standing venue which played host to major events like the MTV Movie Awards, was torn down. A photo shared by a Universal executive on Twitter proves the take down:

The theme park is expected to tear down additional elements to make room for Harry. We told you in April of last year that Universal’s Water World attraction, which sits in front of the Amphitheater, is also expected to be axed. The removals are necessary because Universal Studios Hollywood sits on a plot of land that is not friendly to expansion.
Universal’s Mike Sington noted in a separate tweet that the theme park is expanding its parking structures to accommodate new crowds expected with to arrive with Harry Potter.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s Hollywood land is expected to open in 2015. Meanwhile, Universal Orlando is developing a Diagon Alley expansion which will boast a working Hogwarts Express, a Gringotts Bank thrill ride, and new shows and restaurants. It will open in summer 2014.
Also in 2014, Tokyo’s Wizarding World will open.
