Lords and ladies, your day has arrived! Downton Abbey series 4, episode 1 premieres tonight – but only in the United Kingdom.

Those in the United States who wish to enjoy Downton Abbey series 4′s premiere will have to come up with their own creative ways to watch. Whatever route they take, the plan has to be a reliable one. You’ll need to use it for the next nine weeks as ITV broadcasts the new season.

The synopsis for the premiere Downton Abbey episode reads: “Following Matthew’s untimely death, new mother Mary is struggling to come to terms with her loss. Robert and Violet disagree on how to bring her through it. Downstairs, hearts are set to be broken as Jimmy finally takes an interest in Ivy. Carson has an unwelcome reminder of his past while Mrs Hughes sees an opportunity to help grief stricken Isobel. Thomas is up to his old tricks and has the children’s Nanny in his sights.” The season begins in February 1922. The series finale was set in September 1921.

The cast and crew have been very vocal about this season starting off with Lady Mary struggling with moving on. In a clip we saw the other day, Lady Mary is emotionally in a very dark place.

Catch the premiere tonight on ITV at 9 p.m.
