Saturday Night Live’s state of flux has become somewhat more clear when show runner and long-time executive producer Lorne Michaels confirmed new details about what’s to come this season.
In an interview with the New York Times, Lorne Michaels revealed that last season’s rising star Cecily Strong will join Seth Meyers at the Weekend Update desk when Saturday Night Live kicks off its 39th season later this month. Michaels has stated that he hopes Myers will be able to return to the Weekend Update desk in 2014 since his gig with Late Night won’t tape on Friday, giving him the option to “drop in.”
Last season, Saturday Night Live saw a rush of people leave the show including Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. Throughout the summer, we’ve heard about the potential new cast members that will be added to the show, but Michaels has now confirmed who will be added.
New cast members include Beck Bennett (the guy in the recent hilarious AT&T commercials), Kyle Mooney, Brooks Wheelan and the only new woman to join the show Noël Wells. Last season’s newcomer Tim Robinson has been moved to the writing staff. Conversely, Mike O’Brien, who had been on the writing staff since 2009, will move to the cast. Another new addition to the cast is John Milhiser.
There will be lots of changes when the 39th season of Saturday Night Live opens on September 29th with SNL alum Tina Fey hosting.
