On Sunday, September 8, the cast and crew of Doctor Who will begin work on the Christmas Special, which stars Matt Smith and Jenna Louise Coleman.
The Official Doctor Who Twitter account posted a tweet with a photo of Smith:

It has also been confirmed that Smith will be wearing a wig during the Christmas Special, as he cut his hair for the Ryan Gosling movie How to Catch a Monster.
The Christmas Special will be Matt’s last episode as the Doctor, as he will be regenerating into Peter Capaldi. We also have found out that the Cybermen could be making an appearance as the villains of the piece when a stunt actor tweeted he was going to play a Cyberman.
This news confirms the fact that Matt Smith will be regenerating in the Christmas Special, as many fans had been unsure of whether Steven Moffat, Doctor Who’s showrunner, was going to kill the Doctor off in the show’s 50th Anniversary Special (November 23). Some speculated this because Matt had already shaved his Doctor’s iconic quiff before filming the Christmas Special, leaving many people to speculate that, rather than have the Doctor regenerate in the Christmas Special, as had seemingly been confirmed, he would regenerate at the end of the 50th Anniversary Special. That would have left the Christmas Special to Capaldi as a solo venture, similar to what was done during Christopher Eccleston’s regeneration into David Tennant.
