It’s been no secret that Arrested Development season 5 and a movie are in the works, but today Hurwitz adds that the latter is being written as we type.
“I’m working on the movie right now,” he told Rolling Stone in a new interview published Monday. “I can’t get into much more detail because I don’t want to scare anybody off. I don’t want to be presumptuous about it. I don’t own the property outright – it’s a 20th Century Fox property. But everybody seems really into it and really eager to make a movie.”
News of an Arrested Development movie has been out in the wild for some time. Hurwitz has always said that he hopes a movie would be the end game for the franchise, which started as a Fox comedy and transitioned over to Netflix for its fourth outing several years after the third.
Hurwitz feels confident that he could get the entire cast together to shoot a movie for four to five weeks, saying that the time commitment is much easier than a season of the show, which takes up six months. That statement will come as a relief to fans who noticed that the cast weren’t able to all be together for many scenes in the Netflix season of the show, which debuted this past May.
In separate interviews, Hurwitz has said that he’s also developing season 5 for Netflix, so we assume that another season will see the light of day before a movie.
Thanks, Rolling Stone.
