In more cross-network exchanging (see Jessica Sanchez), Fox has announced that X-Factor judge and music artist Demi Lovato will join Glee season 5.

According to TVLine.com, Demi Lovato is nearing a deal to appear in a “significant arc” during Glee season 5. The report also says that Lovato will play a character named Dani who is a struggling artist friend of Rachel and Santana’s in New York City and that she will be interacting with Adam Lambert’s incoming character. Lambert and Lovato will also have many musical numbers together according to the report.

Demi Lovato is set to appear in at least six episodes of Glee this season with her first episode being part of the Beatles tribute that airs on October 3 on Fox.

With the X Factor’s results show airing before Glee on Thursday nights, it’s going to be a great night to be a Demi Lovato fan!

No more details are available about what we can expect from Demi Lovato’s character, but surely more will emerge as Glee continues filming season 5.

Glee was forced to push back the premiere date of season 5 by one week following the tragic passing of Cory Monteith over the summer. Glee season 5 will premiere on Thursday, September 21 at 9/8c.

What are your thoughts about Demi Lovato joining the cast of Glee this season?

Her voice can easily match theirs when it comes to scope.

You know nothing about singing apparently. Yes, she’s no broadway star. But that’s not what they’re going for here, with her and Adam they’re looking for pop singers. She is 100x times better live than Miley, Selena, or any of the other crap artists that Disney has pulled out of their pockets.

  • Keefa Shine

That’s a bit odd considering they’ve sung Demi Lovato on Glee… and a bit…. out of the blue? why?

    • bill.i.am.

Singing an artist’s songs has never been a problem before for the guest stars. I mean Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth are both guest stars and they frequently mention Wicked on Glee. Gwyneth Paltrow was also mentioned in previous episodes before her guest star role. Uncle Jesse was casually named dropped after John Stamos guest starred; a Gloria Estefan song was song before she was casted as Santana’s mother and I’m pretty sure they’re was a couple more too…. as far as I’m concerned, it’s just another one of those “…well it’s Glee” moments. lol.

    • Strumchick

I so agree. They could have at least made her cameo like Britney Spears’. She should play herself.

Best news I’ve heard all day!! I love Demi Lovato so much! I think she is talented and I can’t wait to see her character on Glee!!

  • pretty caroline

i’m sure she can fit in well with the cast of Glee ‘coz Demi is a great actress and a great singer as well! so excited to watch Glee season 5 with Demi Lovato in :)

  • Antara Chowdhury

I am so incredibly excited about this. Demi has an amazing voice, and although her acting chops aren’t as good, it’s hard to judge solely based on Disney Channel shows. She’s also really good friends with Lea, and friendly with a lot of the cast, so I’m sure she’ll fit right in.

    • Allison L.

I agree that at times she can ‘over’ act, but I also believe that she hasd the ability to act really well…what I remember imparticular is when she appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, I thought she did a great job!

    • Plat

Many of the stars on those shows are written in to over-act, but I’ve seen a few of them in more professional parts and they are much better. Hopefully she is as well.

  • Vanessa

Woah, they managed to keep this under wraps pretty well. Not a huge Demi fan but I’m loving her new album so I’m excited :D Have only seen her in Disney films so I’m looking forward to her first ‘adult’ role per say .

I’m all for building up the cast in New York because it was sorely lacking in season 4, but I really wonder at using celebrity guests to do it since they can’t be permanent fixtures the way that side of the show really needs before some of the McKinley graduates move there.

I won’t be watching past the Cory tribute, but this stunt casting is just like no?????

  • dillonmays

At least she can act and sing better than some people that are already on the show.

  • WrittenByArose

i love this especially now as it looks as though she’ll be playing Santana’s new love interest (new spoiler just got released saying they’ll have a duet in 5×02 singing Here Comes the Sun)… Demi has a very touching backstory, she’s an inspiration to many and a relatable underdog in lots of ways so I think she suits glee perfectly! can’t wait for season 5 now even with the cory tragedy I think they’re handling the situation well :) gleeks forever dudes x

  • Kristen Kranz

Super excited about this as I am a pretty big Demi fan. I think she’s only done one thing outside of Disney acting wise, and that was an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, which she did wonderfully, so hopefully she does well. I really can’t wait to see her character on the show.

  • Zachary Boswell

because she totally deserves it more than any other working actor/singer who are all JUST AS TALENTED AS HER.

  • Isak

I’m so tired of Glee trying to get famous guest stars. They don’t need those gimmicks, especially now after what happened with Cory Monteith. I feel like I wanna spend time with the characters I know, not deal with new and derivative storylines involving random new people I have never seen.

    • ComeAlongPond

Agreed. Frankly, I don’t care who it is, I’m tired of the stunt casting. It appears once more, Glee would rather resort to cheap tricks to retain an audience than actually work fixing their ever-declining quality.

      • Isak

I feel actually a little offended by this. I thought, given what has happened, the writing staff of Glee would jump at the occasion of reworking the show, give to it a bit more depth. Those casting decisions seem to indicate otherwise.

  • Veronica

It’s like the show is trying it’s hardest to make me not want to watch it anymore! I was annoyed by the casting of Adam Lambert, and now this? I really don’t like her voice, and what little I’ve seen of her acting was horrible… I wish the show put more interest in actors that can sing and act (help some new actors make names for themselves) than worry about how many stars they can bring on regardless of their talent.

  • Andy

I am super excited about this – (especially if she is Santana’s new LI as suggested above) – because I absolutely love Demi, but I do have to say that all of this poaching celebrity guest stars from other shows on the network seems to me a bit like the suits at Fox are panicking about viewership and ratings for the season.

  • Jake

This is exciting. Makes me a lot happier for the new season. :)

  • missxsteph21

I’m so excited about this. Demi is extremely talented and I’m glad she’s decided to come back to acting with a guest spot on Glee. Its just one more reason for me to watch the show.

  • Matthew Howland

Demi, in my opinion, is one of the only celebrity to come out of Disney with have any REAL talent. This is BRILLIANT casting and a perfect choice; the ratings for Glee have been going down significantly, bringing in big stars like Adam Lambert, and Demi Lovato will be very successful attempts at bringing those ratings up I believe.

Personally I LOVED the episodes with Kate Hudson (Cassandra July) in them. Same with Gwyneth Paltrow (Holly Holiday), Idina Menzel (Shelby Corcoran), ect. Way to go writers!

  • Rachel West

Soo so proud of her. I remember she said she wasn’t going to act again until she felt comfortable in her body again. It’s amazing that she’s taking this step again. She has such an amazing voice and she has a talent for acting. i can’t wait to see it :D

  • ReallyGlee?

And just when I thought glee could not sink any lower BAM! theycast Demi Lovato

  • Michael Vartanian

I LOVE DEMI!!!!! This is soooo cool!

  • MannyJ

Good for her, get as many real singers on the show as possible then go to true live performances.
