Breaking Bad season 6, episode 2 just aired on AMC – and now it’s time to recap what went down!
The episode started off with one lower class resident finding several wads of cash – the ones that Jesse threw on the street – in his neighborhood. The money trail leads him to Jesse’s empty car where he finds even more money. Jesse, meanwhile, is spinning on a playground set nearby.
Back at Hank’s house, where we left off at the end of last week’s episode, Walt is on the way out and the atmosphere is just as tense. Walt hops in the car and tries to call Skyler, but Hank already has her on the phone. Walt peels out and heads to the car wash to speak face to face, but she’s already left.
We cut to Skyler who’s meeting Hank at a diner. He greets her with a hug. Talking with her, Hank tells her she can be open with him. He says that she and the kids can move back to Hank’s house. He then begins to interview her with a recorder but Skyler resists doing it at the moment. He wants to so that he can bring it to the police right now, but she continues to say no for the time being. Their meeting ends when she keeps asking him if she’s under arrest and storms out of the diner.
Walt’s at Saul’s office. He receives a call from Skyler but doesn’t answer it in fear of Hank being on the other end of the line. Saul suggests that Walt kill off Hank, to which Walt is very averse to because he is family.
Saul’s people get Walt’s money out of the storage unit and brings it to Walt in a van at Saul’s. Then Walt drives it all himself out into the desert to bury it.
Back at the White family home, Marie comes to the door and insists that her and Skyler talk. While trying to figure out when it was that Skyler first found out about Walt, Marie realizes that Skyler knew about it when Hank was shot. This leads Marie to slap Skyler then storm out of the room. Marie tries to take Skyler’s baby and, of course, the mother resists. That’s when Hank comes in and insists that the baby stay with Skyler.
In the desert, Walt is a hot mess as he buries his money. He finally manages it and notes the coordinates of where he buried it on a lottery ticket and puts it on his fridge in the house. Skyler tells him she didn’t tell Hank a thing, and after not responding Walt suddenly passes out from exhaustion. After he’s slept it off, Skyler asks him if it’s true that the cancer is back (a revelation she learned from Hank earlier).
Walt tells her that he’ll turn himself in if he promises her one thing: She keeps all the money. “Please don’t tell me I’ve done all this for nothing,” he tells her.
But Skyler has different ideas in mind. She thinks Hank has nothing but theories, and she suggests that they simply stay quiet.
Lydia is out in the desert – in heels – because she wants to improve the quality of the meth, which has been slacking and caused a $50 million shortfall. She doesn’t like the cooking conditions and says her clients in the Czech Republic don’t like the product. She wants them to bring Todd back. Their opinions don’t matter to Lydia, however. Todd is already there with a couple others, who shoot up the cook and crew.
At the end of the episode, Hank and Marie are talking in their home. The wife insists that Hank tell the DEA the story, but he doesn’t think he has the hard piece of evidence he needs for a conviction. He confesses that the day he tells the DEA is the last day of his job because the guy he’s being chasing this whole time is his own brother-in-law. He will only go in with the story once he has evidence.
Marie also presents this question: What if the DEA finds out without Hank, and then they accuse him of hiding the story?
We cut to Hank re-entering his office where he’s been missing for a while. He finds out that Jesse has been brought in because they found him tossing money out millions of dollars out of car windows. Jesse is not talking. The episode ends with Hank entering the room to confront Jesse.
Episode analysis
Skyler is on Walt’s side. She purposely didn’t share any information with Hank or Marie despite their attempts to guarantee her and the kids’ safety. We have to think that she’ll end up regretting that decision because ultimately Walt can not be trusted by anyone.
And yet… Walt was surprisingly against killing off Hank, despite all the other horrible decisions he’s made in the past. We don’t think that this “can’t kill family” position is one he will always hold.
Next week’s episode will probably show a great confrontation between Jesse and Hank, where the former shockingly finds out that Hank’s on to Walt. It’s hard to say whether or not Jesse will help Hank out, but the detective will probably try to offer him some sort of deal.
