It been long expected that Star Wars Episode VII will have various original trilogy cast members return, but it now appears that Ewan McGregor could return as well.
This report that comes from the Latino Review should be taken with a grain of salt as Star Wars Episode VII is under tight secrecy, but they do say they’ve confirmed with three seperate sources. They report that Ewan McGregor is set to reprise his role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the upcoming Star Wars sequel. McGregor of course played Kenobi in The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith.
As Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi died in the original Star Wars film, in Star Wars Episode VII he’d have to continue his state of being a force ghost like in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It’ll be interesting to see how they explain (if they do at all) why Kenobi’s appearance changes from the older Sir Alec Guinness to the younger Ewan McGregor, but it really shouldn’t be a big deal.
The report also states that McGregor would like one of the Star Wars solo films to be centered around his character.
Earlier in the week, the Latino Review reported that Sith lord Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) would also return. They said that he’ll return as a ghost, not as a clone. Apparently he had another sith apprentice trained at the time of his death.
