Katy Perry’s “Roar,” the first single off of her forthcoming album Prism, has leaked. Listen now!

“Roar” takes on serious and powerful tone. We enjoyed it on a first and second listen. It has a refreshing sound and is noticeably different from previous singles in recent memory.

Prism will drop on October 22. The artist announced her fourth studio album via a huge, gold truck that drove around Los Angeles earlier this month.

The album will be her first since 2010′s Teenage Dream. A re-release titled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection dropped last year with two additional singles, “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake.”

Listen to Katy Perry’s “Roar” and watch the official lyric video for the track released on Aug. 12!

“Roar” lyrics:

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agree politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me passed the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down but I got up,
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down but i got up
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, i see it now

I got the eye of the tiger the fire
Dancing through the fire, ’cause I am a champion
And you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion
And you’re gonna hear me roar
And you’re gonna hear me roar

Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee i earned the stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down but I got up,
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down but I got up
Get ready ’cause i’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger the fire
Dancing through the fire, ‘cause i am a champion
And you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause i am a champion
And you’re gonna hear me roar
And you’re gonna hear me roar
And you’re gonna hear me roar

Roar roar roar roar roar

I got the eye of the tiger the fire
Dancing through the fire, ‘cause i am a champion
And you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause i am a champion
And you’re gonna hear me roar
And you’re gonna hear me roar
And you’re gonna hear me roar

Is Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ leak an appropriate first single?

  • Lashanda

    LOVES IT.

  • andrew14

    Fantastic!!

  • Jake

Whoa. As someone who only midly likes Katy Perry, that was a great song. :)

  • Ultron

There’s a reason Katy Perry is the only pop star I like. This is one of them

  • Michael

This song is awesome. But at times it does sound similar to Sara Bareilles song ‘Brave’. But I still love this song

  • xiku

Hmmmm…. Not sure if it’s because I don’t really like her, but I didn’t like the song. It’s catchy, though…

    • me

“I hate when you say “I hate that song” and someone goes “well you have to admit it’s catchy”

the fucking plague is catchy that doesn’t mean it’s good”

      • Zack

        LOL

  • Gary65

A bit repetitive but it’s really good.

  • Bee

This is a good start. She actually sounds really ‘strong’ in this song. Hopefully after the sorta “awful phase” of Teenage Dreams, especially when it’s down to her live singing performance, she’s going to be a lot better this time around. I really love Katy’s voice, simply different and quite rare at the moment. She do says the new album going to be ‘darker theme’ than her previous two commercial albums, so yeah, ROAR really does a good start for PRISM.

  • Ahmed Tarek

The chorus aside, it’s weakly written and doesn’t show any musical evolution. The production is good though. I like it. It’s not deep in any way, but it’s enjoyable :)

  • Garrett Pletcher

I love the song but I didn’t find it that different from her other singles. I’ll still get the album…her best songs are not singles! (well some of them are lol)

  • Paul

This is terrible. The lyrics are a joke. Obviously written to impress the 6 year olds who buy her albums.

    • emily

no. fuck you. katy is amazing. this song is amazing.

      • Lindsey

Nobody is allowed to disagree with you, right? lol

  • fuzzytaco

This song is fantastic. Whether or not you’re a fan of Katy Perry or not, this song is creative and catchy and sure to be a huge hit. I was thoroughly surprised by how much I liked it. *Applause*

    • 0glosoli

It’s not creative, it’s a ripoff of something creative, Sara Bareille’s “Brave”.

    • Lindsey

      Heheh… Applause

  • Riana-Tiana Menezes

    I like it!

  • Ultron

I think the line “I got the eye of the tiger, the fire” is supposed to be “I got the eye of the tiger, the FIGHTER” not fire. I thought it was fire at first but then I thought why would fire be in 2 lines in a row? So upon careful inspection I believe it’s fighter. Just thought you might want to know.

    • daryl

      you are stupid

  • Baidar

    no. i’m disappointed.. I hope that’ll change but we’llc

  • John

IMO she can do no wrong! <3 her 4eva! She's gorgeous & I luv her music! Wish she had married me rather than that loser Brand!!

  • http://lifestylerevolt.com/ Marc Perrot

This makes me so excited for the new album. Sounds great!

  • Phoenix07

I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!! I really hope the rest of albums is a awesome as this song!

    • daryl

how old are you pretty girl

  • Darrene Bethany †

    gosh I love it

  • Lindsey

It doesn’t sound that much different from her previous work. The song is sweet and sugary and doesn’t match the title ROAR. I expected it to be more fierce. Definitely a radio hit though, to please the masses. I’m dreading the live performances urgh… Katy is going to yell like she did with Firework…. I hope not.

  • sarahd15

I enjoyed it, not as much as I enjoyed her singles from the Teenage Dream album. This one didn’t feel as strong, but who knows, it will probably grow on me. Excited to hear more from her new album!

  • dani(el)

this is pretty darn good. I like Katy Perry. her music is usually more distinguishable and a lot more well made than most pop music, and this song gives me high hopes for this album.

  • Septima

    Love it!

  • JP

refreshingly different? it sounds just like Brave from Sara. lol.

  • Ahmed Tarek

I wonder if she’ll be able to do the “r-o-o-o-oar”s and the belts at the end live. We’ll see (and hear) :)

  • Isak

I do love her but this sounds as a step back. It’s a bit too generic to me.

  • Corvino

As a huge Katy Perry fan, I would say that “Roar” was not as strong as a comeback compared to California Gurls or Teenage Dream. I don’t understand what was bad about the Teenage Dream era. I loved it! Even though it was admittedly generic and pop but it was a strong year for her and I loved every song from the album. It was a lyrical and musical growth from “One Of The Boys”, which is also a personal favorite of mine. I do hope that “Prism” will make me realize that Katy indeed went from a “Meow” to a “Roar”. The song is good though and although I don’t really like the riff of the roar but i appreciate her vocal artistry in the song. Hopefully she justifies her self live when she sings this! :) Love you, katy!

  • shelly

I love the apple product placement and how the service provider is KT & P :)

  • Maria Wang

    Can you say, airbrushing galore

  • daryl

Katy, why did you make this song
