Beginning this August, fans of Outlander will be rereading the series in preparation for the release of book 8 in March 2014, entitled Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.
First published in 1992, Outlander has been on the New York Times best-sellers list six times and has sold over 20 million copies.
The television network, Starz, has recently picked up the rights for a 16 episode season which will begin filming in Scotland this fall. So far, the only character that has been officially cast is Jamie Fraser, who will be played by young Scottish actor Sam Heughan (@Heughan). Outlander fans are still (impatiently) waiting to hear news on who will play Jamie’s other half and main character of the series Claire Randall.
The television adaptation will be written by Battlestar Galactica writer Ronald D. Moore. At the official press announcement on June 25, Moore expressed he’s enthusiasm for the project, saying:
I’m very excited to have the opportunity to bring these books to life. Diana’s created a rich and textured world filled with intriguing characters, and I believe that Starz is the perfect home for her story. I think we’ll make something that the millions of fans of these books will enjoy and recognize as ‘Outlander.’
The show is slated to premiere around the time of the release of book 8 in early 2014. If you’ve never read Outlander, now would be the perfect time to pick up a copy and begin reading along with fans. I guarantee that you will fall in love with Diana Gabaldon’s stories and characters and won’t be able to put the books down. Each book is filled with epic adventure, passionate love, characters you will love or hate (or love to hate) and honest views about life and love.
You can follow the re-read on Twitter by searching the hashtag #OUTLANDERReadAlong where daily excerpts from the series will be posted. You can also read excerpts of the new book on Diana’s Facebook page.
For those who have read all seven books, the excerpts from the new book don’t contain any spoilers, so don’t worry. Though, if you haven’t read any of the books yet, I wouldn’t recommend reading Diana’s daily lines from Written in My Own Hearts Blood.
