The first posters for X-Men: Days of Future Past were released today featuring Professor X and Magneto, who each seem to be having an identity crisis. Check it out!
On the heels of what can only be described as a gargantuan Comic-Con panel, Fox has shared the first posters from X-Men: Days of Future Past. Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Ian McKellan, and Michael Fassbender star in the posters which have them sharing more than just character names.
Check out the face-morphing posters featuring the mutant leaders:
Professor Charles Xavier played by Patrick Stewart (future) and James McAvoy (past)
Stewart returns as Professor X for the first time since making a quick cameo in 2009s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. From the footage we saw at Comic-Con, we know that Stewart and McAvoy will get to interact with one another in the film, with Future X imploring past X to help save the mutant race.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McAvoy spoke about the balancing act of playing the younger version of a fan favorite character. He said, “It was always about taking Professor X and showing him being very different…but with the idea that my performance is going towards Patrick’s.”
Magneto played by Ian Mckellan (future) and Michael Fassbender (past)
McKellan and Fassbender are back providing the “yin” to Professor X’s “yang” in super-villain Magneto. We learned from the Comic-Con footage that future Magneto (McKellan) and the professor find a common enemy and must put their differences aside to save mutant-kind. We also learn that this might not be so easy for young Magneto (Fassbender). We suspect working together will come more naturally than he thinks. After all, they were friends once, right?
Fassbender said, in the same EW interview, he took a different approach to playing a young Magneto. The actor joked, “I’ve just been copying everything Ian’s been doing.”
McKellan joked back that he works in a lot of movies with amazing special effects that could be used to make him look a lot younger, and asked Fassbender, “What the hell are you doing in these movies, I could play it myself.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past features actors reprising their roles from past X-Men films including Halle Berry, Ana Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, James Marsden, Ellen Page, and Hugh Jackman.
The cast from X-Men:First Class also returns, featuring Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, McAvoy, and Fassbender. Peter Dinklage joins the cast as Bolivar Trask.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is directed by Bryan Singer and hits theaters on May 23, 2014.
