PBS is teasing a forthcoming announcement that looks like it could be the return of Carmen Sandiego.

“Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” was the television game show’s tagline, and today that answer is back on PBS.

The following graphic was posted on PBS’ official Tumblr today with the remark: “Where in the world did this come from? Stay tuned for something awesome!”

'Carmen Sandiego' returning to PBS

The official Carmen Sandiego Twitter account followed up with a tweet that said:

Carmen Sandiego’s return date has not been announced, but we’ll update this story when we learn more.

The Carmen Sandiego television show ran from 1991 to 1997 after being inspired by a video game of the same name. The game show pits three contestants against one another as they try to uncover Carmen’s location.

While the news isn’t as exciting as all-new episodes, fans who are looking for some nostalgia while browsing the television guide will surely want to stop by Carmen’s channel to see where “in the world” she is today.

If you can’t wait to see the show return, here’s the final episode from the first iteration of the show, which wrapped in 1995:

Oh, I can almost hear Rockapella singing the theme song now. I loved this show as a kid, what a nostalgia trip this’ll be.

and in one way I actually kind of like this better than new episodes because I could never see anyone other than the late Lynne Thigpen as the chief.

YESYESYESYESYES OMG WHERE IN TIME IS CARMEN SANDIEGO WAS EVERYTHING WHEN I WAS LITTLE. I can’t believe this. Now they need to re-air Zoom!

I almost thought they were making this into a movie and got really excited. After the Captain Planet news I had a discussion on how much fun it would be to see Carmen Sandiego on the silver screen. I hope that at least rerunning old game show episodes will help generate public interest again. I wonder if they’ll reconsider the animated show also? Anyway, I’m still happy for this news! I was Carmen Sandiego for Halloween in 6th and 12th grade and it was a big hit both times. :)
