New details about Agents of SHIELD are revealed by Whedon, along with a new image featuring Joss Whedon and actor Clark Gregg which has been released featuring a behind-the-scenes look at Agents of SHIELD, their TV show spin-off from Marvel’s The Avengers.
Agents of SHIELD is ramping up its promotion, as it’s set to hit our television sets in fall of 2013. Featuring Agent Coulson, played by actor Clark Gregg, as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as SHIELD.
Despite ABC being fairly quiet about the show’s details, EW has learned a bit about what we can expect from the show, and also what we can expect to see from the cast and crew at this year’s Comic-Con.
The pilot will reportedly hint at “how mild-mannered kick-ass bureaucrat Agent Coulson was resurrected,” which will be a major part of the show according to co-creator Jed Whedon. He says that they plan on taking their time revealing how he’s been resurrected, and we can expect that fans will be scratching their heads until it’s explained.
We already know that Samuel Jackson’s character, Nick Fury, doesn’t always give everyone the entire story. While we don’t think Jackson will make an appearance in the show, his history of being secretive and not always telling the truth could be an easy way to reintroduce Coulson.
Coulson and the rest of the Agents will be investigating new, strange, and unknown heroes and villains across the globe – protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Click on the new behind-the-scenes image below to view Joss Whedon and Clark Gregg in HD:
They’ve also revealed that the story will attempt to work in “tandem with the Marvel films,” from past to future films. The first episode will reportedly start with a storyline that is “familiar from one of the Marvel hits.” But, they explain that it’s not The Avengers.
Joss Whedon’s brother, Jed, the co-creator, goes on to say, “We plan on trying to weave in between the films and try to make them more rewarding on both ends.” Check out the trailer that was recently released for Agents of SHIELD below:
While the creators have said to not expect a TV show that looks like a $200 million dollar film, they also explain that it won’t look shabby, and will definitely stand out in ABC’s current lineup. “When fans see this pilot, they’ll be pretty astonished by what we pulled off and the challenge is to do it every week,” says Marvel’s head of TV, Jeph Loeb.
He goes on to say that, “The magic of television is that it’s about characters, and fortunately that’s also what Marvel is also about. We’re not built around a cape and a cowl.” Check out the rest of the details which EW revealed about The Avengers TV spin-off.
It’s arguably the most anticipated show of the fall 2013 season thanks to the success of the 2012 Avengers blockbuster. In addition to his time with Agents of SHIELD, Joss Whedon will of course be directing The Avengers 2 for release by Disney on May 1, 2015.
Although Joss Whedon has been directing the pilot, his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen will most likely be taking over while Joss will continue to help write some of the episodes. Fans can look forward to some of the great television writing we’ve seen from Whedon in the past.
Are you getting excited by these latest photos and the show’s recent trailer? We’re still curious how or if the Avengers will play a part in the show at all. We can’t imagine that the main characters will see any TV screen time, but it’ll be interesting to see Agents in the world that The Avengers took place in.
