A new report from a local Pittsburgh newspaper confirms with the city’s film office that The Fault in Our Stars will begin shooting precisely on August 26.

Most interesting, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that The Fault in Our Stars will be released in 2015.

That time frame comes as a slight surprise because producer Wyck Godfrey told Hypable last year that the film was aiming for release in 2013 or 2014. We’ve reached out to Fox to seek confirmation about 2015 but have not heard back yet.

The Pittsburgh film office says that The Fault in Our Stars is the first movie to shoot in the city in 2013. Readers may recall that the book to film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower was also shot in the Pennsylvania city.

Although many scenes in the book take place in Indianapolis, filmmakers will use Pittsburgh to shoot because of film tax credits. They will also shoot in Amsterdam, which is where later scenes in the book take place.

The Fault in Our Stars is the film adaptation of John Green’s young adult novel of the same name. Shailene Woodley stars as Hazel Grace and Ansel Elgort will play Augustus Waters.

Woodley and Elgort are currently wrapping work on Divergent, which is shooting in Chicago. They play brother and sister Tris and Caleb.

We learned earlier this week that Fault will be scored by two of Bright Eyes’ band members.

2015 seems pretty far away, especially for a movie that’s not sci-fi or fantasy. But if that’s what it ends up being, then I guess that’s that. It’ll still be a fun experience to go see it when it finally comes out, in 2014 or 2015.

  • Amanda Cora

If it does end up being 2015 then I would think it would be very early in the year. It just seems so far off. However, filming begins right after I return to Pittsburgh for school so I am very excited about that.

SO annoyed that I moved away from Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Nerdfighters are going to have so much fun with this, haha.

im glad they’re waiting until 2015. i just feel 2014 has too much happening already, so it makes sense for TFiOS to wait til all of that dies down a bit. at least let it die down enough that TFiOS can gain better momentum.

There’s always a lot happening in the movie world. The Avengers 2 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 are coming out in 2015. The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes will most likely come out in 2015 as well. And if Vampire Academy, The Maze Runner, and Divergent do well, their sequels will also probably come out in 2015.

i see what you’re saying, but i think that since TFiOS is NOT part of a series and the others that you mentioned are, the selection of the release date was done with purpose. i think that since it IS a stand along movie, waiting until 2015 to give it some traction is a good idea. i also think CoA may come out in 2014, since they will start filming in a few months.

If they cut the Funky Bones scenes I’m gonna be very unhappy

  • Laura Palmer ≈

I don’t think I can wait that long. Seriously.

  • Jeremy

For a movie that won’t involve CGI (who knows maybe they could CGI some things) its seems odd that it would begin filming in 2013 and come out in 2015. If the movie is done right I feel they should release it Late 2014 for Award Season to notice it.

  • Pipwig

If its gonna be in 2015, it better be worth the wait…

Clearly I’m out of the loop but can someone tell me where that art comes from? I really like it!

At this rate, I think it’s coming out in 2014. They COULD sneak it into early January and have it be an awards contender along with coinciding with the anniversary of the book’s release because movies like this that are filmed on-location with an original score require very little post-production work.

  • Ticket-Less FanGirl

They can take all the time they need. This film has to be perfect

i have a dead boyfriend and this book means so much to me, i really hope that they dont change a single scene or touch a single word of the speeches
