The Dark Knight trilogy star Christian Bale is speaking for the first time about his potential involvement with the planned Justice League movie, stating he won’t be a part.
“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films],” Bale told Entertainment Weekly when asked if he could slip into the role of Batman once more. “That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy. Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.”
In mid June we learned from Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer that a new actor would be cast in the role of Batman, but this is the first time we’re hearing from Bale himself. Him to making comments about the possibility is worth sharing because his Dark Knight trilogy went on to amass over $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
Goyer also noted that a Justice League movie would likely take place after the events seen in the Superman reboot, which hit theaters last month.
Warner Bros. appears to be actively working on a Justice League movie in part to join in on the success Marvel and Disney have seen with The Avengers.
Whoever plays Batman will inevitably have a huge weight on his shoulders. The role has been closely tied to Bale over the past several years, and fans will naturally be drawing comparisons between the two.
