Though Liam Neeson has said that Taken 3 would never happen, he’s nearing a $20 million deal for the third installment in the now-franchise.
According to Deadline, Liam Neeson is very close to signing a $20 million deal to star in Taken 3,. He’ll reprise his role of Bryan Mills, a retired CIA agent with “a very particular set of skills” that he has to use when his family continues to get “taken.”
Neeson was originally reluctant to even come back for Taken 2, and once he did he earned $15 million. He’ll see a decent raise to come back for the third installment.
After Taken 2 was released, Neeson denied the possibility and plausibility of Taken 3:
I don’t think it’s going to happen, I can’t see a possible scenario, that audiences wouldn’t go ‘Oh, come on. She’s taken again?’ Unless we do one where I give her away.
Maybe he’ll give her away. It’d be ridiculous, but what about this series isn’t ridiculous?
In order for the film to be made, they also need to get the series’ other two stars back. In Taken and its sequel, Maggie Grace played Kim, his daughter, and Framke Janssen played Lenore, his ex-wife.
There’s no word yet on what Taken 3‘s plot will be. As 20th Century Fox has always wanted the threequel, Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen have been working on the script. They’re responsible for the first two films.
While no director is set, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Taken 2 director Olivier Megaton back at the helm. He’s the protege of Besson who directed film to much financial success. The film cost around $45 million to make and brought in over $376 million, much to the pleasure of Fox.
While we don’t expect it to be a great movie, we do enjoy watching Neeson as Mills. It’d be a shock to see Taken 3 end up being a good movie, but we still expect it’ll be a fun one.
