The Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer is adamantly denying rumors that he’s been in talks to play Christian Grey in the book to film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.
Asked in an interview with Playboy whether the good-looking actor had been approached, Hammer did confess that his agent brought up the idea – but that wasn’t enough to convince him.
“No one actually offered me the movie,” he said, “but while I was working on Lone Ranger my agent brought it up, and I said ‘Nope.’ I mean, come on—it’s just mommy porn. I’m not going to sit on top of the laundry machine in spin cycle reading about putting a ball gag in someone’s mouth. That doesn’t do it for me.”
Hammer seems to despise Fifty Shades of Grey and Christian Grey so much that he doesn’t think any actor should be involved because it’s “just mommy porn.”
E.L. James is the author of the wildly successful Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy which was the best selling book series of 2012. James and screenwriter Kelly Marcel have been actively working on the adaptation in recent months, and just last week we learned that they had brought Sam Taylor-Johnson on board to direct.
With a director now selected, all eyes move on to casting the pivotal roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. While no solid rumors about Christian have surfaced, insiders believe that Felicity Jones has been approached for the lead female role.
Fifty Shades of Grey is aiming to hit movie theaters next summer.
Meanwhile, Hammer’s The Lone Ranger opens July 3 and co-stars Johnny Depp in the remake of the classic television show.
