Sony has released five new The Mortal Instruments images featuring some of our favorite scenes including the garden.

Some of the images are from the trailer such as Jace staring into the coffee shop window. We also see Simon and Clary in Pandemonium. Then there are other images like Clary and Jace on the motorcycle they ‘borrow.’ But the best image has to be of them in the garden because that is definitely a fan favorite scene. There is also a really nice shot of Isabelle helping Clary get ready for Magnus’party.

Which image has you most excited to see the film? Are you getting a better feel for the characters now that you’ve seen them in images from your favorite scenes? Sound off in the comments.

About ‘The Mortal Instruments’

Lily Collins is set to play Clary, while Jamie Campbell Bower is set to play Jace. Joining them in the Shadowhunter world will be Robert Sheehan, Jemima West, Kevin Zegers, and Godfrey Gao. I saw a commercial for this movie the other night while watching Teen Wolf. My immediate thought was “wow, that looks kinda awesome” then it was “holy crap, is that Robert Sheehan???” and I looked it up and realised it was based on a book and now I kinda want to read it. Just another book series to add to my never ending reading list.

    • Rebecca Fritch

you should read it asap! you only need to read the first book for the first movie, because not only is the book TOTALLY AWESOME, if you decide to go see the movie without reading it you will probably get trolled by everyone who has.

      • http://ravenclaw1991.tumblr.com/ ravenclaw1991

Oh, I’ll definitely read the book before I even think about watching the movie. Its a personal rule of mine :) Book first, movie later. I literally didn’t watch any Lord of the Rings films until after I finished reading the series so I wouldn’t be spoiled!

Is there a link for the clip

      • Laura Jurgensmeyer

Here you go! This is the second official trailer that came out. This was that aired with Teen Wolf this week, so I assume it’s the same (s)he’s talking about.

          thanks

    • Jake

You really should, they’re my second favorite book series after Harry Potter!

  • Ray<3Jamie

Wow!! And now I just cant wait for it!! Actually Ive been waiting for this for such a long time.. Ive alreadu read the latest book and Im very excited to watch it on theäters!! And Jamie Campbell Bower is the Jace Wayland?? Perfect!! I love it!! I love him!!

  • Jake

I feel a bit better about Isabelle now. I think it was when she has her hair pulled back like in the trailer, she doesn’t look like she’s supposed to. She looks good in that picture, though! So excited for this movie!

Does anyone else think they ruined these movies by casting Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace?

    • Sheechiibii

How do you know if he’s going to be a good Jace or not? The movie isn’t even out yet.

      • http://kiradineen.com/ Kira Dineen

Personally, I do not find him attractive. Normally if an actor can act then it doesn’t really matter what they look like. However for the role of Jace, attraction is the main attribute of his character. His self obsessed personality relies on his good looks. Again, normally looks aren’t nearly as important as being a good actor, but for this character it does.

        • Sheechiibii

He’s not the Jace I picture in my head either. He might not be my type, but I do think he’s attractive, and even if he was plain, I know plenty guys who think they’re great who aren’t as great as they think. Also, I think the way Jace acts adds a lot to his attraction, as much if not more so than the way he actually looks. Attitude is very important and confidence is sexy. I’d far rather have someone who can play Jace really well than someone who looks like my Jace but doesn’t act like him.

          • http://kiradineen.com/ Kira Dineen

Very true that confidence is sexy.

          • emily

The thing is, I don’t think Jamie’s that great an actor. He doesn’t feel like Jace. All he seems is dark and brooding and annoyed, which is NOT Jace. Granted, we have not seen the movie, but in all the stills and promos we’ve seen, I have not been convinced. I’ve yet to feel the Jace from the books. And the past things I’ve seen him in have not sold me him as the greatest actor either (he was so badly cast in Camelot, by far the weakest link there). So really? I’d rather have had a good-looking guy than this.

          • Sheechiibii

I think he’s a really good actor. From what I’ve seen of him when he’s been in character for Jace (interviews and such) is exactly what Jace is meant to be, snarky and sarcastic and arrogant. There are plenty times in the series when Jace is dark and brooding and annoyed too though. I just think we’ve done really well getting Jamie in this role, he might not look the part (and he does fit most of the characteristics, even if people imagined him differently) but he’s one of the characters I’m most confident in as far as acting is concerned.

          • emily

I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree, because I don’t think he’s done anything to resemble Jace in the film. The point I was trying to make, and I’m sure the other person was as well, is if he was a really good actor, maybe him looking like he’s on the verge of death (seriously, he looks ill and emaciated, not exactly how I pictured Jace) would be something we could try to overlook. But he’s just not. His acting is not enough to make up for his looks. If he was at least attractive, I could stare at a pretty face to get over the acting. But he has neither looks or incredible acting talent as far as I’m concerned.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t think Lily Collins is that great either, but she’s at least cute and it’s easier to overlook her lack of talent. But I’ve a feeling the side characters will make this film (Robert Sheehan was PERFECTLY cast), not Jace or Clary. Which is kind of sad, but it is what it is.

          • Sheechiibii

Before having even seen the film I think it’s impossible to say whether he will play a good Jace or not. I think he likely will, you think he likely won’t. But neither of us will know until we’ve seen it. Looks wouldn’t make me get over bad acting however. Not when it comes to book adaptations.

To be honest, Jace and Clary aren’t my favourite characters in the series anyway, so if the other characters carry the film, I’ll probably be all for it, because for me they carry the books too :)

          • emily

Looks are very easy to help get over bad acting, in my opinion. I think Emma Watson is pretty awful in the Harry Potter films, but most people, critics included, think she’s wonderful, and I think most of that comes down to her being a pretty girl. Jennifer Lawrence, on the other hand, was picked by critics as being “too fat” (which is horrendous) but her acting won them over.

I think Jamie’s looks are a big hindrance to this character because I don’t think he has the talent Jennifer Lawrence does. I really wish they’d gone with someone else, someone far more beautiful. I can’t imagine he was the best possible choice in terms of acting out of everyone who auditioned, to push his looks aside in favor of his acting. He was the worst link in Camelot, and critics said so.

          • Sheechiibii

Well how about waiting to see what his acting of Jace is like? Those critics you talk about made their decision after seeing the movies, not before. How can you say he won’t act the role well when you haven’t seen the film yet? None of us know. Cassandra Clare, who created the character, says he plays him brilliantly, she has said that he is her Jace and that there’s nobody better to play him. Since she’s seen more of how he is in the role than we have, and since it is her character, I’m inclined to go with it until I see the movie myself. Also, I think your example of Jennifer and Emma is a really bad one, because I think most people would say Jen is far more attractive than Emma.

          • emily

I think Jen is more attractive than Emma, but a lot of critics around the time THG came out, came after Jennifer for being “too fat”. It was horrendous. Now she’s far more liked because the public has warmed up to her. Even Jen has come out and said she’s considered “fat” by Hollywood standards. Emma Watson, though, is beautiful and skinny and keeps getting roles even though she isn’t that great an actress, in my opinion.

Cassandra Clare would like anyone they chose or cast. I went to her tumblr and she’s still trying to convince people Alex looks all wrong by posting photos of him now at age 22 — obviously she’s very aware people still don’t like Jamie. So what else would she do? She’d try and say Jamie’s perfect. It’s a business after all, she wants her movie to sell. JK Rowling has said Emma’s a perfect Hermione and I don’t agree with her ;-). Even JKR can do wrong.

All I can go on is Jamie’s past acting, which I was not impressed by, and the stills/previews I’ve seen of TMI, and he isn’t Jace for me. Like I said above, we are going to have to agree to disagree on this.

    • emily

I do. He’s so horribly cast, he looks ill.

    • Tessa

I’ve got to be honest that was my initial reaction too, but the more I see of the movie and Jamie discussing the role in interviews the better I feel about this casting. He really seems to understand Jace, who he is and where he is coming from. Ok he’s not how I pictured Jace but I’m looking forward to seeing what he does with the character.

      • Rebecca Fritch

        that’s exactly what i think!

  • Amalia

I’m really excited about these movies! The only thing that bothers me about the images out so far, is the age of Alec and Isabelle. They look so adult (especially Alec)…

    • http://kiradineen.com/ Kira Dineen

As much as I love Kevin Zegers as Alec, he does look a few years too old. Alec is 18 and Kevin is 29. Izzy is 16 and Jemima is 26. That’s Hollywood casting for you.

      • Sheechiibii

Kevin looked exactly how I pictured Alec back when he was younger. He does looks too old, but that’s alright, if he can play him well that’s what matters. And hey, he’s still hot :D I just pictured Alec as being cute, not hot lol

        • http://kiradineen.com/ Kira Dineen

I agree. If he can act, that’s good enough for me.

    • Mariae Montero

I think they made the characters in the movie older. Correct me if I’m wrong though, but I honestly swear that I heard Robert said that they had to make the characters older than what was written in the books. I don’t mind it. As long as they stay true to the major plot points of the books, alteration to the little details such as their ages, looks and costume details won’t really matter. What’s important is that the actors would be able to portray the personality of the character and the movie doesn’t stay far away from the major plot lines that were written in the book. *ehem* Percy Jackson 1 *ehem*

      • Amalia

I would actually feel better about it if the movie characters are supposed to be older than in the book (although one could argue that it would make them less vulnerable). What bothers me most is if they are portrayed as teenagers in the context of the movie, while looking so much older. But you’re right, of course the acting is much more important.

  • Winkyxx

    I honestly don’t like Jamie…

  • Winkyxx

I just finished reading the first book… did not see that plot twist coming… I need the 2nd book. NOW.

    • Sheechiibii

Haha, oh man, I remembe that feeling when I finished the first book. My jaw was on the floor. :) it just gets better and better from here on.

      • Winkyxx

Really?! Well I ordered it so hopefully it’ll be in my hands soon!
        Thanks :D
