Yesterday, the first trailer for The Hobbit sequel Desolation of Smaug was released, and two fans recorded their reaction as they watched it. Today, director Peter Jackson asked the movie’s stars to watch the fan reactions – and recorded their reaction.
First, watch this video where two Hobbit fans who run Tolkien fansite TheOneRing.net watch yesterday’s new Desolation of Smaug trailer.
Having seen the above video, director Peter Jackson asked Hobbit stars Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Evangeline Lilly (new character Tauriel), and Lee Pace (Thranduil) to watch the fan reaction. Jackson filmed the three stars as they watched:
One of the best parts about the stars’ reaction is that they’re all in costume. Jackson and his cast are currently filming pick ups for the final two Hobbit films Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again. Jackson noted on his Facebook page a few weeks ago that this is the final time he will ever shoot a Tolkien movie.
Bloom, Lilly, and Pace all seem to get a real kick out of the passionate fans, and we’re sure it helps inspire them to put on their best performances possible.
Desolation of Smaug opens in theaters December 13. Yesterday’s trailer included our first look at the dragon Smaug (voiced and animated by Benedict Cumberbatch). Martin Freeman stars as Bilbo Baggins. There and Back Again hits theaters December 2014.
